Home made awning cover

I saw an article in the last Trailer Life magazine where a guy made an awning storage cover out of black corrugated drain pipe. Used a 1 ft section as a test piece and once he figured out the cut and fit, cut a piece of the drain pipe to cover the entire rolled up awning. Has anyone here ever done anything like that?

Don't know what the summertime temps are in your area. The Cougar we just traded off was 7 years old and the awning was still in excellent condition. Never covered winter/summer. I just made sure to keep it clean, washed twice a season. YMMV

The awning is attached to the trailer sidewall using a "awning rail channel". The awning fabric slides into that channel to secure the awning to the trailer. Many of the "awning protectors" actually do more damage to the fragile fabric than they help protect it. Just the movement of the wind against the plastic cover can abrade the vinyl waterproofing coating on the awning fabric and result in water running down the side of the RV, just the opposite of what you've intended.

So, if you do decide to "protect your awning" with a home-made cover, be sure of how it is attached and don't let the sharp "self cut edges" of a hard plastic "make-do" cause more damage than you or your awning can survive.....

A couple months ago I saw somewhere the house gutter trick. The plastic gutter slips over the awning. Slips off just as easy. I've picked it up off the ground twice now. Any wind over about 25 mph will blow it off.
