Metal valve stems for Steel Wheels?
What metal stems does everyone recommend for my OEM TT steel wheels? Don't want aluminum because of dissimilar metal corrosion issues. Thanks

I am not sure but, I'm pretty sure it is the rubber seals that contact the rims with no metal to metal. I used brass valve bodies on my steel rims. JM2˘, Hank

Which ones did you buy and where did you get them?

They were supplied by the commercial tire service that mounted the tires. Make sure they are the correct size for the hole in the rim and pressure rating.

I agree with Hank. No metal to metal contact from valve stem. Steel and brass stems are readily available at most tire shops. Even the rubber stems should serve a person well with few issues. ( no more or less than metallic stems )

I have to admit, I just go with whatever metal stems Discount Tire puts on. I've never had a problem with the metal stems they use and don't really give them any more thought than that.
CarKath-I'm not sure why the OP is going to a metal stem, but many of us here use them instead of rubber stems for using a TPMS. The rubber stems flex too much at speed with the weight of the sensors and either cause damage to the wheel or damage to the stem.

I asked this question because I'm considering a nonflow-through TPMS and while they are very light some have said they had issues with rubber stems. The rubber stems on it now are from last fall when I put new tires on it.

I think it may depend on the TPMS you select. in my case I have had the Tire Minder System, now going on 5 years, second set of Trailer tires, around 18K miles with no issues. I track 12 tires, all rubber stems. When I first bought the Tire Minder system called their customer service, which by the way was excellent, asking about stems. They stated metal stems not required.
If I recall members choosing the TST507 TPMS and possibly others have gone with metal stems I assume due to the heavier transmitters.

I had the TST507 system with non flow through sensors. The rubber stems did flex just enough for the sensor to contact the wheel and mar the finish a bit. I now have the flow through sensors and metal stems and love the system.
