Converter on Springdale

I was camping and had my yamaha 3000iseb inverter running our springdale, a 266RL 2007. After the second night all the lights went dim. I plugged to the truck, which should have given enough charge but didnt. We bought a new battery anyway and it seemed to work ok.
I thought by running the generator we were running on electricity and did not expect it to be running on battery. Would it be a converter problem causing this?

There are fuses in the converter that protect it from voltage spikes/variations. You were using an inverter generator, so there's probably not an issue with spikes, but there is no common ground between the generator and the convertor, so there may have been enough voltage differential to blow one of the 40 Amp fuses in the converter. (There are two). I'd check all the fuses in the converter and since you bought a new battery, I'd also check to make sure it's connected properly. The black wire is HOT (+) and the white wire is GROUND (-).

Even if you're running on 110 volt shore power, the converter powers all the 12 VDC circuits. If one of the input fuses is "blown" then the battery would power the 12VDC equipment until it ran down. With the fuse blown, the converter would not charge your battery. As for the tow vehicle, you only get about 15 - 25 Amps to the trailer, so if you were running several lights, the reefer and the water pump, it's no suprise that you didn't have much "left over" amperage to charge the nearly dead battery.
