Oven pilot light mod

I have changed the igniter several times on some of my gas grills. Has anyone modified the oven to use one of these to light the pilot light on the oven? The wife has a hard time doing this. Seems k
Like it wouldn't be that difficult.

If you do a search you'll see that many people have done this
You could always leave the pilot lit

Rather than using a match, if that's what you're using, try a butane, wand-type BBQ lighter. For the few times we use the oven, the lighter is a non-event compared to modifying the pilot lighting process. FWIW...

I guess if it would light with a spark verses a flame then it could work but in a grill the wire is on the outside. We have only used our oven once in 4 years so it would not come into play.

I did the mod using this
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B004DCABX2/

As mentioned there are lots of posts on this and other sites from many that have also done the modification. The wire is shielded but I also added some high heat tape that I had kicking around. The existing hole in the front faceplate has to be enlarged slightly to accommodate the new knob.

I aslo purchased a small stainless steel mirror that will be attached in the oven so you can see the pilot has in fact lit.

We use our oven lots - our trailer is our home for the winter.

Ditto on what Williston did. For the oven I used an electrode for a bbq burner. Going to mount a piece of polished stainless on the oven door so I do not have double over to see the pilot light.

Oven

I thought that the oven had a thermo coupling that had to warmed up for the gas to flow before you could light the pilot light. mine does, therefore an ignitor would not work.

Oven pilot light mod

The thermocoupler keeps the gas flowing. Once you turn the knob to pilot, you push it in bypassing the thermocoupler.

Using a sparker takes the place of using a match or lighter. After the pilot flame is lit it heats the thermocoupler and keeps the valve open. If the flame goes out the thermocoupler cools and shuts off the flow of gas.
