Montana Questions

In our third year of camping we are still learning each and every every trip we take.
I am posting a couple of head scratchers for you more seasoned campers to hopefully help us make our trips more enjoyable.

Is there supposed to be water in the bowl of the toilet at all times and after a flush? If there is supposed to be water and there is none what can I do about it to make sure water stays in the bowl after it is flushed? If it is not supposed to stay in the bowl then forget that question.

If there is a discrepancy between right and left landing gear due to uneven terrain (side to side) should l add wood to the low leg or let the legs naturally adjust and level themselves and the trailer?

Same question for the rear stabilizers.

The kitchen sink is looking kind of beat. It is stained and the substance around the bottom drains, ( I have been told is plumbers putty) is just about gone and looks bad.
Can I remove this substance and put in caulk?
How can I remove this substance?
What type of caulk is best to put around the kitchen drain basin?

Our holding tank levels do not display an accurate reading of the levels.
I always use toilet treatment and have used Camco's probe cleaner with little result.
An e mail to Camco suggest I use the RV Swivel Stik item #40094 but that would only be effective for the toilet. I just cant condone the mess that product might make dragging it into and out of the trailer.
What products could be effective for the gray and galley sensors?
Right now everything shows full and has been that way for a bit.

Toilet bowl - There should be some water sitting at the bottom of the toilet bowl to prevent "gas" from the black tank escaping up into the bowl and surrounding area. If there isn't, don some rubber gloves, clean the "flapper" and apply some Vaseline or silicone spray. Try this and see if it works.

Landing gear - You can try placing a single block of wood (with a large footprint) on the low side to compensate or simply adjust your low side jack accordingly and let the two reach their own level. You need to watch so that you have enough "wiggle room" to make any other adjustments such as raising or lowering after you come forward with the truck. This is assuming you have a 5th wheel with front landing jacks.

Holding Tanks - The sensors and resulting indicators on the panel are known to be inaccurate - especially the black tank. The gray tank is a bit more reliable and the fresh water tank should read fairly accurately.
The best solution is to keep plenty of water in the black tank, give it a thorough flushing and again add plenty of water when you have finished dumping and flushing. Adding soap or Calgon or some other water softener helps keep the tank clean.

You may never get all of your gauges to read accurately -- it is a common problem and not worth getting upset about.

I am assuming you have the white molded sink?? If so, use SoftScrub and a green scour pad, we use the sponge with the pad glued to it. With a wet sink, squirt the SoftScrub around and scour the entire sink until the stains are gone. Again, this is for the white Corian type sink material. Corian recommends scrubing the entire sink, especially the first time, so the sheen is the same on the entire sink. The caulking for the drain fitting will be white, non-staining plumbers putty, which is used for synthetic sinks. You might also check the large nut under the sink to make sure it is tight. It seems they put a large amount of putty on ours, and over time, the putty squeezed out.

Thanks.

That is exactly what happened. Our sink was leaking and I tightened the nut underneath and the putty exuded into the basin. It looks awful and I would like to get rid of it and put in a bead of caulk instead. But I don't want to make matters worse, as in leaks.

I will try the soft scrub or equivalent and see if that does something to make it more appealing.
