Keydon, we receive claims such as this all year on this forum. I'm afraid you'll have to post the yellow sticker from the door jam for proof.

That clearly won't work as the trailer is "backwards". Can you imagine going to all that trouble then pulling into a cg and realizing ALL the other campers are facing the "other way"?

Don’t have much to update, still on my quest for stock height steering knuckles to make operation “Lose the Lift” happen. Headed to a spot about 2 hours from home this weekend. Made a couple trips to and from the storage yard to dry run setup/tear down and get it loaded the way we want. First time trying to upload pics but here it is:

Sounds like my kind of truck.. LOL... Even at my age nothing sounds better than a set of headers with flowmasters and true duals... JMHO..

First trial run done! Took the crew up to Jellystone in Kerrville for the weekend. Bout 1.5 hours that took 2 thanks to San Antonio traffic on Good Friday. Got my 9.5 inch drop shank in and got it set up perfect with all measurements. Huge difference. Now it’s towing level and no more bucking. Truck did great thru the hill country. Kept it in tow haul mode in 4th gear at 65-70 mph/2500-2800 rpm. Computer said 9.2 MPG, I hand calculated 8 MPG. I don’t get much better unloaded in town. I could leave the truck how it sits now and be happy, but I’ll take the advice and keep looking for stock parts to remove lift. Also, may need to ditch the magnaflows and go to a big block muffler. The grade braking on the Allison paired with my “set Ford alarms off” exhaust has me popping pretty loud during deceleration. Don’t need the local yokels getting excited. Here it is:

Ahhhhh! You went camping and caused the bit of rain we had Sunday? It is really needed as the lake is way down. How big is your gas tank on that thing? 8 MPG ain't that bad but if you have a little gas tank it can wear you out stopping for fuel when traveling with a camper. The camper isn't much fun to get in/out of country filling stations.

That was me! Don’t I know it. Medina lake used to be one of my favorite places to fish. I got the 26 gal tank but I’ll be swapping in the 35 soon. Bout $500 from GMPartsDirect so not too bad. Probably replace the pump while I’m at it. This one is original.

I had a gas 96 F250 with a 460 CID gas guzzler; it had two 18 gallon tanks as I recall and watching the gas gauge drop was entertaining. Planning fuel stops when camping was a must. The engine was very reliable but wasn't particularly powerful for a big block and the brakes were drums all the way around and those guys got HOT when pulling a camper in the canyons of the Hill Country.

Buddy of mine had the same truck I borrowed for hunting trips about 10 years ago. Absolute stump puller. Put it in 1st, let out on the clutch, and you could get out and walk beside it. The 8.1 is a totally different animal. Torque monster. Boat and dump truck motor in a pickup. Just open em up with intake and exhaust, de-tune the Allison, and they roar to life. That’s why I think it did so well even with the lift and tires. Not to mention the custom tune changed my shift points higher to hold in gear longer. My neighbor towed his 28’ Salem forest river lightweight with his 2007 ram 5.7 and he couldn’t stay with me thru hill country. I lost sight of him on that 7% grade.

There's no replacement for displacement. Just drive it like ya stole it. Life is about having fun.

Wow, we had two different F250 460's first was a 79 camper special club cab, we carried a 8' cab over camper in it not bag, just hard to pass a gas station. The second was a 88 F250 both had the C6 transmission. both drank gas at a rapid rate, but both had front disk brakes. Dumped the 88 for a 2001 Ram 2500 with Camper package and Cummins 5.9 and NV4500 trans and 3.55's. It towed out 12,500# 5er great. the Ram got twice the mileage around town than the 460, 14 mpg vs 7 mpg with the 460.
