Chevy Silverado 2500 LT Z71
Hey guys,
Well my wife and I have towed our trailer a few times and realized our truck (2009 Nissan Titan) may not be strong enough. So after the advice you guys have given us along with our experience we have decided to upgrade our tow vehicle.
We have purchased a 2015 Chevy Silverado 25000 HD with LT Z71 packages. We will take delivery tomorrow night. So we will be ready for the 2016 camping season.
So thank you for all your advice and input.
Tim and Charlie

Chevy Silverado
Thanks guys,
We purchased the Voratex. I just couldn't justify spending the extra 8 grand or so for the diesel. But it should be stronger for pulling our trailer which will allow for longer travels and further adventures.

I'm real curious what the payload is on the 2500 Gas. Can you see what the yellow sticker between the doors says for payload?
Thanks.

GM,
The sticker states the weight of cargo and occupants should not exceed 2778 lbs. I hope this is the info you are thinking of.

Thanks. So about 750 lbs more than the 1/2 ton (mine is 2015).

Congrats on your new truck. We bought the same one in August. We love it. Towing capacity is 13,000 for trailer and 14,300 for fifth wheel.
We live in NJ but bought in Pa.

Congrats ! I will wave to you as I pass you going up the hill. Lol. Just kidding. I am sure you will love it and I understand how many people can't justify the diesel. Does the gasser still get the Allison ? I wish I has that tranny in my ram

Congrats
I have a '09 2500 HD 6.0 gasser. I pull a Keystone Sprinter (269FWRLS). I only have 45,000 on it. I'm fairly happy with it however the gas mileage to and from work and around town is around 12 at the most (wish it was better).
When I drop the pin into the box I get anywhere from 7 to 10. With the gas motor there are many variables such as wind, amount of water on board, how fast I push it and hills that affect it. A buddy has a similar trailer with an '07 2500 HD. It has the Duramax with the Allison tranny. He pulls around 65 - 70 mph. He claims he can set the cruise control and forget it. His mileage isn't too far off of mine, he gets 10 to 12.
If I had the chance to get a diesel would I? Yes, then I can compete with my wife and her VW TDI sport wagon that gets 43 on the hiway.

Re: Congrats
Hey brittsnbirds,
12 mpg about town isn't too bad, in my opinion. I am getting between 9 and 10 so far but I can be a bit of a leadfoot . With my 09 Titan I was able to get around 12. It will be interesting when we start towing again next Spring to see what we get.
If the diesel was cheaper, I would have bought one as well but could not justify the higher costs.

Same here. Fuel is higher and def fluid cost also. If i do get a bigger TT then i will have a 3500 with a diesel. Right now my tundra works just fine.

Don't worry about the cost of DEF, unless $14 every 5k miles, or .002 cents per miles is a concern for you.

What Brent ^^^^said! We have 42K on our 2014 F-350 and have spent $71 on DEF so far. I might also add that if you are towing a 38 foot 5th wheel with a gas engine you will be getting about 6-7 MPG. Need I mention you will lug up hills with tractor-trailer rigs passing you? If you only tow this trailer 40 miles three times a year to the county camping spot then I can see why you might buy gas, but for resale, bragging rights , towability, torque and horsepower diesel is the only way to go.

Little side bar!
Just a little off topic but not,
Today I noticed in our little burg in Missouri gas was $1.85 and diesel was $2.29.
Does anyone know why Ford quit putting the V-10 in their 2500 and up trucks?

The V10 wasn't as popular as they had hoped and they can now get the power of the V10 out of a V8 with less weight and better fuel economy.
