We too have sometimes used the truckers lanes. If the area is too small for us to get into or get out of, then we have to.

Dirty looks or not, we need diesel too!

Buckeyebob.... - like I said in earlier post - I've never had the negative looks you refer to. In fact, usually have a friendly nod or words from truckers, the same as I give them! Also, don't understand how they would be upset behind you? It's a much shorter wait in line behind a small chevy tank vs another semi. In fact, most truckers will get in line behind pickups because they know the wait is shorter, especially if you have a pay at the pump card.

Tips for fueling in the truck lanes:

Don't dwaddle (dilly-dally?). When it's your turn at the pump, go in and get pre-authorized. The DW heads into the fuel desk while I'm moving up. Fuel your truck and QUICKLY pull forward to get out of the way then go in and pay. Just remember that, while we are on 'vacation' and aren't concerned about time, the driver behind you has somewhere to be.

I have used truck stops from time to time with never a problem. Most truckers are friendly and I have had them ask about our camper, where we have been, etc. Occasionally have had one ask if he left me enough room to get out. Mostly though, since we rarely travel more than 300 miles in a day, I can find the closest, cheapest fuel with Gas Guru, an I-phone app, and go there after we unhook and fill up with no problems. 35 gal. fuel tank comes in handy. Filled up in Charleston, SC this morning for $3.23/gal. As mentioned, Indiana is the only state we have been to where we could not get fuel at what looked to be a regular truckstop.

As a truck driver I can tell you no one cares if you use the truck lanes. At least no one I know. As others have said just do your thing and pull forward or go park.

No tax in Ind means the advertised price does not include the tax. The nozzle on the semi pumps will not fit in my filler & I have a diesel.

Yeah. Just crack the nozzle a bit by hand...and stand aside...just in case.

Filler neck restrictor on a diesel? Really?

Yup, there is a filler neck restrictor on the 99 superduty pickup. It's apparently a followon to the same type filler neck that was used on the previous generation F250/350 trucks. My 99 superduty had the same type filler neck restrictor. I could fit a nozzle about the diameter of a "regular leaded gas" nozzle, but not the high flow nozzles usually found at truck stops. There was a plastic "adapter" that slipped into the fill port and had a wider opening so the high flow nozzles could be used, but the nozzle had to be held as it would not slide in far enough to stay by itself. It was quite a hassle to fill in the "high flow lanes".

Some people were simply taking a screwdriver and breaking out the restrictor, but then, they encountered flash back when the high flow nozzle would not shut off properly when the fill neck was full of fuel or foam. It would make quite a mess with foam spewing out around the high flow nozzle.

I thought Ford fixed that with the later superduty models, somewhere around 20003-2004..

2003 Excursion (same frame and powertrain as F250) with 6.0 diesel will take the big nozzles, as will 2008 F350.

use the truck lanes at gas stations....don't worry about truckers.

you usually have to go in and give them the $$ amount, can't do it outside.

Mine is not plastic. The hole in the metal is the same size As a gas nozzle.

Some early Ford Super Duty fuel fill necks were plastic, some were metal. There are replacement fill necks available for a "reasonable" price that replace the smaller, restricted openings. Here is a picture of one and a link. I've never ordered anything from this company and I don't know for sure which application this fill neck is for, but it will give you an ideal of what the part looks like. Essentially, you remove the 3 screws in the current fill door, undo the two clamps on the fill hose and the vent hose, pull the hoses off the existing neck and remove it, replace with the new, larger neck and replace the clamps and screws and head to a "real truck stop"

Looks like a good mod for those with "filler neck envy".

Now you know why I traded the truck for a Shelby GT. No, we don't go there
