Need New Truck
Well this is how my holiday weekend started, a lady blew a red light and took me and a minivan out.Everyone walked away,Thank God. I need some advise on the big 3 truck companies, I know allot about my (RIP 7.3L Powerstroke) but replacing it will be difficult with another 7.3L, so I need help.
This is a painful pic

If you're looking used, I'd start looking at Chevy Duramax or Ford 6.7, I understand that the '15 Rams are finally catching up with the others GVWR but can't say from personal experience. I drove Ram diesel duallys for several years and always had good luck with them, but know nothing about the hew versions.
Are you moving up to a 350-3500 SRW or looking for a dually. Even though my truck is a '12 I want to sell it and move up to a dually again... I really miss the stability when towing and I live in an area where the dually is almost as common as a mini van...

Off the top of my head, used, price under 20K.
Or what for a lawyer, possibly newer but still used, I just can't afford a new 45+K truck.
I'm playing the waiting game right now, but hopefully by the end of the week we will now how well my insurance company is going take care of me

Well I would have suggested getting the current fixed, BUT the picture looks like the frame is a bit on the bent side.
Is the $20K in addition to what you get for your rig? If $20K total looking at about 2005 as newest you are going to find. With that as you limiting year I would steer clear of another Ford, I would for those years I would suggest the Ram over a Duramax, although both are close in reliability, I switched from Ford to Ram for a Cummins, and are very happy.

I'm not sure on what you can get in a Ford or Dodge for $20k, but a Duramax is going to be a tough find at that price. They hold their value really well. When I started looking a few years back for my first Dmax I ended up going new since the price on a used one with under 50k miles wasn't much less (they're like a Harley). Perfect example, I just traded in my 2011 2500 LT with 42K miles, the dealership has it listed at $40k, I paid $43 for it new. I did get a great deal when I bought it. NADA is still at $42K so the dealership isn't over pricing it. Keep inmind this is now a 4 year old truck. I guess if you want to look at 2005/2006 with 120K+ miles, you might find one in the $20k area.

Just thank the Lord that you made it through such an accident. Also good thing it was a Ford. Settle for nothing less than a new vehicle.....

You can stay with a Ford and get a 6.0 but ONLY if you know what you are looking for. 6.0 is a great motor ONLY if it has been treated right and properly maintained. If you don't know how to investigate that you will want to steer clear of the 6.0.

Not trying to start a top 3 war, but I'm not sure being a Ford makes any difference. A few years back I had a drunk driver do the same thing to me. Almost $11k damage to my brand new (3k miles) dmax, DW, daughter, and I all walked away. The only injury was a bruise on my daughter's wrist where she hit the grab handle. I say be glad it was head on instead of a side impact, much stronger/safer area for an impact.
Glad you all walked away and are here shopping for a replacement.

I'm aware of the 6.0L issue's, but before I buy I will have my diesel guy crawl all over it.

This was not a head on, she hit me coming from my left, and my wife said Thank God I saw her just in time too hit the brakes because another 5 or 6 feet could have been in the drivers door.

Definitely lucky. My accident was a left front corner as well, except my guy was coming from the opposite direction of me and did a left turn right into me. The left front corner of my bumper took him dead center in the grill. Everything was pushed straight back into the tire. Believe it or not no suspension damage, these 2500HD trucks are amazing. The tow truck hooked a chain on the bumper to pull it away from the tire and I drove the truck home.

Good idea.
I love mine. But all three are good trucks.

Just an FYI, I know several Ford 6.0 owners, ALL have had issues from EGR to blown engine, $4,000 to $15,000 for repairs.
Maintenance doesn't seem to make a difference, many have perfect maintenance records and still fail.
I changed after 45 years of Fords, I bought a Ram/Cummins and love the combination.

I agree I would stay well clear of a 6.0L Ford unless its had ARP head studs installed, EGR/EGR cooler delete, and a few other mods needed. The 07/08 Duramax is a good engine and any 07 or older 5.9L Cummins is a good way to go. I love my 6.7L Cummins, but I wouldn't drive one stock, buts that's just me. Good Luck on your quest to replace your truck

Kbb site
Maybe going to KBB and experimenting will get you close. Start plugging in numbers like you are selling a 2011 F350 with the options that you are looking for with different mileage for your zip code.

I paid 17500 for my 2003 Duramax extra cab in LT trim with 103K on the clock last July.

Got a line on a replacement, but tonight my son is forced off the road and rolled his F-150, and both him and his friend walked away
Thank You Ford Motor Co. for making tough and safe trucks.

If you are thinking about a Ford with either the 6.0 or the 6.4, see if the truck was / is chipped and monitored. What kills EGR's in these engines is excessive EGT's which can happen on stock trucks.
I own 2 of them. There are ways to make the 6.0 and 6.4 bullet proof. It involves and upgraded EGR cooler or the EGR delete, depending on where you live, depends on which way you can go with that. ARP head studs and the other real big upgrade done to bullet proof these 2 engines.
I am working on the 06 now. It had an injector hand grenade which caused other issues so I'm doing a full rebuild just because. ARP studs, EGR cooler upgrade and a few other things. this truck has 146,000 on it and I';m the second owner. Bought it with 99,000. The other truck is an 03 and has 228,000 and the engine is all original. Had to replace the IPR and ICP sensors and high pressure oil pump. Other than that, its been real good.
If Ford is your thing, don't shy away. Just have a good diesel machanic look it over before your buy it.
Mike

I have an 04 F350 with about 87k on it, had to replace the ERG last year but the truck has been very reliable other than that issue, oh and an injector too. The only recommendation I prefer is a long bed.
