WD Hitch Question

Just bought a new Ram 2500 upgrading from a Ram 1500. I have an Equalizer brand hitch (12000 lb.). I am assuming it will transfer from the 1500 to the 2500 and then have to be readjusted. Am I correct in that assumption? Thanks.

The hitch won't transfer as it is specific to the truck but the new truck should be equipped with a hitch already.

Depending on the receiver size the drop shank, ball mount and bars should work. When I swapped mine from an F150 to a F250 I had to buy a new shank as my receiver was 2 1/2" instead of the standard 2".

Sorry. I think I posed the question wrong. I was wondering if the WD hitch and sway bars would transer. Your comment about the size of the hitch is something I need to go check. I had no idea they changed the size of them on the trucks. I do think the 1500 had a class IV and the 2500 has a class V which may be the difference. I'm going to go check now.

Just measured and both hitches are 2". So I am assuming I'm good to go with the WD hitch I have after I get it set up. Thanks for the information.

Yes you should be "good to go" if both receivers are 2". You may (slight risk) have to buy another drop shank if the one you have won't adjust low enough to keep your trailer at level. Most shanks will adjust for the "average" and yours should, but you may find that you'll need a new one. Otherwise, it's back to the "adjusting board" to find that level surface, measure the front fender well height, hitch up, adjust your bars to attain the correct fender height again and then measure to assure the trailer is level or slightly "nose down"....

23RBWE. The 2500 has a 2 1/2 inch hitch instead of the 2 inch. I also need a bigger drop on the shank as the new truck is a 4X4 and 4 inches higher.
Can I just use a sleeve for the difference in receiver size or is it advisable to use a 2 1/2 inch shank for my existing Husky wd set up.

If you're going to buy a longer (lower) shank anyway, why not just go ahead and the the 2.5" shank and not "fiddle" with the adapters that seem to slip and rattle unless you clamp them down (added cost clamp)... Just my thoughts.

I'm surprised the Ram doesn't come with a sleeve, both of my Dmax's came with the 2' sleeve. I personally don't notice any more noise with the sleeve or without it. I personally would go with a 2" and add the sleeve, makes it universal for easier transfer to a different TV.

I use the sleeve on my Chevy with no problems, no noise, no issues. Maybe if you were towing some huge thing you would need the 2 1/2" shank but I wouldn't worry about it with your Hideout. I don't see any reason the Equalizer won't transfer right across without a problem after doing the necessary readjustments for height.

If getting a new shank I would get a class v and not use a sleeve. I use a sleeve on my 3500 and it rattles around more in there and makes noise

After having the truck for a week I looked under the rear seat and SHAZAM there was the reducer sleeve. I have ordered a new shank and will be using the sleeve. Thanks for all the help.
