Water tight mounting enclosure for the BMV-712 shunt

I purchased the Victron Energy BMV-712 battery monitor and based on the recommendation in a very detailed review and the manufacturer's web site, I also purchased a Blue Sea MaxiBus Enclosure (PN 2719) in which to mount the shunt.

Monitor: https://shop.pkys.com/Victron-Energy...y-Monitor.html
Review: https://www.truckcamperadventure.com...phone-display/
Enclosure: https://shop.pkys.com/Blue-Sea-2719-...28_p_2771.html

The shunt should be kept out of the weather and I assumed this enclosure would be water tight, but it is not.

I'm pretty sure I need to mount the shunt on the tongue of my RV trailer where it will be out in the weather. Does anyone have any suggestions for a water tight enclosure I can mount on the tongue of the trailer into which the shunt for this battery monitor will fit?

I would suggest going on line and searching for a NEMA 4X ENCLOSURE. This would be the Cadillac option. They are not cheap. Hoffman is one of the manufacturers. They also have metal boxes that are watertight.

If it were me, I'd devise a method of running the battery cable into the front storage compartment, relocating the DC circuit breakers on a panel inside the front storage, installing the shunt there, then running the cable from the shunt back outside to where it reconnects with the remainder of the trailer wiring.

I have never understood why all the manufacturers install sensitive electrical components on the front trailer bulkhead, exposed to the elements and expect them to last. Relocating them inside the trailer is not that difficult and is a significant improvement over trying to "waterproof" the outside location.

I just mounted my shunt in a type c conduit junction box and screwed it to the bottom of the cap behind my batteries.

I used this box for mine. I’ve had it for about a year and it works great.

This made me think, I know, dangerous, just ask the DW. I have a new 7 way connection box like this setting in my garage. Changed a umbilical and found a kit cheaper at the time that included this. I'm going to see if a breaker will fit on a stud and have room for the wire to connect. The box alone is on Amazon for <$10

Given that the review photo showed it installed inside a camper, I wondered what advantage anyone saw to installing this outside.

I have a "spare" battery box on my rails that I use to hold the TPMS booster, plus messy incidentals like hitch ball grease pots. It's not 100% weatherproof, but weatherproof enough for the application.

Harbor Freight carries a line of inexpensive weatherproof cases that might work in this application. (I looked for size information for the display but it was either not there or hidden really well.)
