Smile Our week for new Cougar 278RKS

Hi folks,

We are excited and headed to pick up our new Cougar 278RKS. We have downsized from a 2006 25 ft. Hitchhiker - almost 16,000 pounds. We witered in that unit 4 years in AZ and it was comfortable. Now we have an AZ house so have decided we want to be lighter and shorter to get into more places. We hope the PDI goes well and that we get many years of fun camping out of the new unit.

Hope to link up with other Cougar owners. Our NuWa forum was so active that I still prowl around on it.

Welcome to the forum, Dianne and I am sure you will enjoy your Cougar 278RKS as much as we have enjoyed ours. We have had it for two years and it has provided us with many hours and miles of trouble-free camping.

Thanks

Thanks for the welcome. I too hope we have years of trouble free use of the new Cougar. It is good to hear from folks with the same model and any tips you might have to make it more comfortable or convenient would be welcome.

Smile 278RKS in our yard

We picked up the new Cougar 278RKS on Monday, traveled 425 miles back to our northwest base. We have a condo with a designated parking spot for our fifth wheel. It is 6 feet shorter and 6000 pounds lighter. We weighed it on a closed truck scale in Oregon. It is nice that when the scales are closed, they leave the weight sign on.

We really like this smaller fifth wheel. We did find some cupboard latches that were put in haphazardly so came open and the kitchen mini-blind does not twist to shut/open blades. We hope to take care of little things.

We put up a clock, need to install toilet paper holder. We find it odd that they don't install that but put it in a drawer for us to install.

We also need to adjust the TV strap as we see a better way to attach the strap but need to be sure we don't screw the wall into the shower behind.

I hope to be a regular on this forum and learn lots of tips from you folks.

As you become more familiar with your unit, you will find little things that need fixing or adjusting. Apparently, the reason for not installing toilet paper holders is that people like them placed in different locations --- "customer preference" -- was the term used in our case.
We have made some changes to our unit with the cupboards by installing additional shelving in the the vanity/mirror, in the large cupboard next to the fridge and wine bottle holders in the two small entertainment cupboards.
Having the kitchen - and dishes - in the rear has the potential problem of having them come flying out of their cupboards while travelling over a rough and bumpy road where the rear gets bounced around. A variety of solutions exist but we have found that placing a pillow of the right size in the cupboard where our plates, bowls, glasses, etc., are stored helps prevent this from happening. It happened once and broke a few.
Any other things that we have done that you might be interested in.....you can send a PM to me or search this forum under Modifications and Upgrades.
