Which one would work?

In my last post you all didn't recommend pulling a Premier 31BHPR (max loaded weight is 7500lbs dry is 6300ibs) with my 05 Suburban 1500...... So I am looking for an older truck just to pull the camper and take my family along as well (6 of us). I was looking at an 05 Ford F-250SD Crew Cab and a 2004 Chev Silverado 2500HD Crew Cab. Both have 3.73 axel ratio.... just curious what everybody's thoughts are.....Thanks!

Both should work out fine. I would go with the ford but that's just me.

Just my 2 cents. If going gasser, you may want to consider 4:10 axle, which increases the tow ratings significantly. Especially on the older 5 speed transmissions, a lot of stress on those. Personally, I'm a Chevy man. The 6.0 is hard to beat.

Either but I would want the one with the most power. That said I would take my time and try to find a Diesel.

You should probably take the transmission each one of those has into account if all else is equal.

hmm thats a tough one. I owned a 04 2500 Chevy 6.0. Liked the truck and the motor pulled our 25' Terry pretty well.

Personally I would save up a little or find a higher mile diesel. You will not be disappointed.

Whats your price range??

I would go with the Ford as well (I am biased and for no other reason than it is a Ford!) I would also try to find a diesel. You are going to pay pretty close to the same price, prolly a little bit more, but it will be worth it to not have to worry about towing capacity anymore!

Here goes my 2 cents and this will start a war ford 6.0 keep a ficm with you and be carefull which oil filter you use. can cause lots of issues. dodge with a cummins is very good 5.9 with a 4.10 is better than 3.54 bt it will stii pull your desired unit. the cummins 6.7 has many issues cats turbos. the ford 6.7 i have not heard or incounterd any thing bad. as far as GM well being a SAAB guy and what GM has done to the people that owen them well i can't print my fellings here with out getting the powers that bee very upset!! but they can rot in a very warm place... GM the the moderators that is. but the duramax is ok too. good luck

I'm a Ford man too but if i were you and your looking for a older used truck just to pull the trailer then i would look at 2000-2003 F250-350 7.3L diesel or 2005-2007 Dodge 2500-3500 5.9L Cummins. Mileage doesn't really matter on these motors so get the body style you want. Good Luck!! Kevin
