Actually, yes. Dishwasher soap (the liquid stuff) can be used in the black tank also instead of Dawn. It's much more concentrated, so you don't need as much. But it should work just fine in the black tank.

Actually, any laundry or dishwashing product, powder or liquid will help keep the black tank smelling fresh as a daisy (well, maybe not a daisy ) but close. If you use bleach, be sure to rinse your holding tanks in a timely fashion. Don't let it sit in the tank.

.... a word about the back flush. The back flush method skyrocked in my experience after we installed the washing machine and dryer. The washing machine is plumbed into the grey tank. And each load uses approximately 8 gallons of water (I've measured this). Using common laundry products (Tide HE, fabric softeners, crystal thingies that is suppose to add sweet smells to clothing, and even bleach for whites, all go into the gray tank.)

Then that same water in the gray tank is used to backflush the toilet black water tank. It's a free cleaning! About as good as it gets!

The reason we don't use dishwasher soaps is because it's another bottle of "something" we would have to keep under the bathroom sink. And that space is pretty much filled to capacity. And dishwasher soap would serve no other purpose, except this one in our camper.

On the other hand, we use Dawn for all sorts of things. With the washing machine now, we use it for pre-treating, dishes, even washing the dogs after they've been in the mud, mopping floors, and cleaning the toilet itself. So it's a product we use for everything and has multiple purposes for us. It easier to just keep a product stocked up that you use for everything, instead of one dedicated product that is used for only 1 purpose.... especially in an RV.

But oh! If you have glass shower door, liquid dishwashing soaps clean the glass great! It's designed to remove lime from dishes in the dishwasher. It removes lime from glass shower stalls too. Use it straight on a soft green scrubbie and lightly scrub the glass. Then rinse the shower glass. I usually do this while taking a shower. And it only has to be done, maybe once or twice a year at the most.

Just a tip. Good luck with the cleanliness!
