USB for phone charging when boondocking?

We will be boondocking and need to charge our phones. Can I use the USB ports in my 2021 Cougar half ton 5th wheel 30 rls? I have a portable solar panel to keep the battery recharged, but not sure if the USB ports run off the battery or shore power. Thanks for any assistance.

USB ports are 5VDC. It makes infinitely more sense to convert 12VDC to 5VDC instead of converter 120VAC to 5VDC.

You can always test it before you venture forth.

How big is the solar panel?
How does it connect to the battery?
Does it have a built-in charger controller?

You generally never want to attached a solar panel directly to a battery unless it is specifically designed to do so.

So I take it you are saying I can use USB port to charge phones. The portable solar is 100w, has a controller, and it is plugged into the prewired plug of the trailer. Thanks!

The USB in our last trailer (Keystone Outback) operated on battery and didn't rely on any AC power (solar or shore power). You should be fine, but as was mentioned, check them out first just to be sure. Have fun.

Well question, are the USB ports stand alone or part of a 120 volt duplex outlet.
If standalone yes they should work, if part of a 120 volt duplex outlet not likely.

Good point, I will just have to test it. Some are stand alone, some are not.

We use this unit... charges two at once... does a good job and can also be carried anywhere...
