Cougar HC 291RLS

After about a year of researching we signed the papers today for a 2012 Cougar HC 291RLS. We will do the PDI and camp out at the dealer for a night a month from now (working out of state).

I have been making my list of stuff I need to get. One thing that I do not know what size to get is the "roto-chock" for going in between the tires. I plan on getting these plus the wheel chocks and some type of angled stabilizers that connect to the front and rear power jacks.

Check out this post by flyguy. Do yourself a favor and print out and take with you.................. http://www.eaa1358.com/Passport/Pre-...0Checklist.pdf

For stabilizers, check out the steadyfast system. I don't personally have, but a few on site here do and talk highly of system.

Enjoy your new trailer!!

Congratualations, hope you are as pleased with yours, as we are with ours. Feel sure your tundra will do an excellent job towing this 5er. The LP bottles have a valve to switch from 1 tank to the other but it does not have a gage to let you know the amount in the tank.

What hitch did you decide to go with? The 16K Superglide by Pullright is the one we chose and did a great job from Michigan to Virginia.

The dealer we bought it from said he has sold several of these to owner's that (several had the Tundra's) had the 6'6" bed and they did not need the sliding hitch. He installs only the Husky brand hitch and brake controllers. I am also having a custom receiver hitch welded onto the frame for my bikes and/or storage.

Totally your choice but I would recommend talking to other dealers about the slider hitch. Every dealer we spoke to prior to buying recommended a superglide hitch to ensure no problems in sharp turns. Just l less thing to worry about when on the highway.

I was prepared to get a slider, but two out of the three dealers that I looked at the Cougar said it was not needed.

The dealer that said a slider was needed was the one we ran from fast. We caught him in several lies about fifth wheel campers and the Tundra. While we was at that dealer everyone disappeared and left us. We found out later they was trying to figure out what to do about a very heavy travel trailer they sold was going to be pulled by a Chevrolet 1500 with the small engine.

Question??

Did anyone get a fantastic fan and if so for which fan?

If you have bikes where are you putting them at?

I just installed the Winfield landing gear stabilizers on my 2011 Mountaineer 295RKD and with the roto-chocks the unit is rock solid. No need for rear stabilizers. One less thing to deal with.

One of the advantages of the Winfield stabilizers over some of the others is that it is a total bolt on system with no drilling required.

Here is their link:http://winfieldrvproducts.com

Good luck!

Are the pilot lights on the water heater, stove, oven and heat system automatic?

The only pilot light you may have will be the oven, and maybe not there. I am not sure. I tried to check the specs on your unit on the Keystone website but that model number was not listed ?

Congrats on your new purchase. We have the 299RKS & love it. The only pilot on ours is the oven. Everything else has an auto electronic ignition. I assume yours will be tyhe same.

Do the black and gray tank drains connect to one drain location on this model? I have looked at so many models the past year I can't remember.

Yes, all three tanks drain to the main sewer connection. They each have an isolation valve to close off each tank. On our unit the only pilot that needs to be lit by hand is the one for the oven.
Congrats on your new purchase, happy campin.

We did out PDI today, but did not get to do a campout. It was raining all day and turned cold. We was at the dealer for 5 hours doing the PDI and getting the hitch and brake controller installed. By that time we was wet and tired. The Cougar was under cover, but we still got wet with the blowing rain. I was surprised that it had two gray tanks. It pulled it great with the Tundra. I had to slow down a few times when I was going over 70 MPH.

I tried to load a picture, but could not.

Congratulations

I know you're excited with your new Cougar HC 5er. We're looking forward to our first camping trip in ours next month. I'm sure your Tundra will do a great job towing. Wish you many miles of Happy Trails. Camping is some of the best memories we have and we're sure it will be the same for your family.

Galley Gray Tank?

During the PDI the tech mentioned that the 291 had a galley waste tank also. I saw the three pull handles and was wondering what it was for. Is this correct and how big is it?
