Reese Goosebox install!

After 33 days waiting for E-Trailer to ship my "In-Stock" Goosebox order, I canceled and ordered from Amazon for a cheaper price and had the unit within 48 hrs of ordering.

Put it on this weekend! Have not towed with it yet but I am so glad to have the use of my truck bed back without having to enlist help removing that huge sliding hitch!

Good looking install. Be sure and let us know what you think after you've used it a bit. If I ever decide to get rid of my Andersen that's what I'm thinking I'll go with.

Will do. I have a multi state 1200 mile round trip scheduled for Thanksgiving weekend where it will get a workout.

I think you will like it. It softened our ride a lot. No tolerance stack up to cause slamming and banging.
There are issues....
I have to lay down on my usually wet tailgate to connect the safety cables when hitching and unhitching. I need to store a piece of plastic to lay on the tailgate when hitching.
Just like a bumper pull trailer, you have to be very close when hitching up. I line up on the backseat center headrest. Depth is hard to judge for me. Betty's legs are too short for her to look over in the bed to tell me when I'm "on it". That cargo camera was the one box that I missed checking when I ordered this truck.
My trailer pin weight is right at the 4,000# rated capacity, I have only aired the cushion bag once. I ran it up until the relief valve released. You may want to experiment with pressure.
I keep the hitch and the trailer ball well greased. On our last trip I was re-arranging generators in the truck bed and unknowingly brushed up against the greasy trailer ball. Grease on my jeans and shoes. I ordered a plastic slipover cover from Amazon for the 2 5/16" ball.
Let us know how it works for you.

Thanks for the pointers. I have the CHMSL camera and will be adding a second one just above the fender well under the side bed rail to allow me to see the side view of the ball and hitch from in the cab. Hopefully this helps get it aligned easier.

The current rig is around 2,500 on the pin fully loaded. Future rig will likely be more like yours.

I absolutely love my Reese Goosebox. The ride is super smooth, I have been very impressed. My GMC has that fancy multi pro tailgate which makes it nice to lower the inner tailgate to be able to get closer to hook up the chains and the cameras that the GMC has puts me pretty darn close backing up by myself. Let us know how you like it after your journey.

I have over 18k miles towing with my Goosebox. Absolutely love it!!

Only issue I have is the little nub thing on the release cable, slides on the cable so I can not lock the cable in place with the jaw of the hitch open when disconnecting. I have to have one of the kids lean over the tailgate and pull the handle while lifting. I have tried tightening the embedded allen but it still slides on the cable. Grrrr.

Other than that no complaints. Excellent ride quality!

In the owners manual Reese listed the wrench size for that set screw. They were wrong. I believe I found the smallest allen wrench I owned fit it. Once I snugged it up it has stayed.

My issue is not the size of the allen key to tighten the set screw. I have tightened it up to unbelievable torque/snugness and it still loosens/slides once I put the cable/knub on the bracket to hold the jaw open.

I honestly can't imagine why anyone would want a Goosebox with a trailer designed as a 5th wheel.

Seems like slapping silk on a sow's ear and calling it a purse.

Ah! Come on Javi! Tell us how you really feel about them!
I've heard/read nothing but good reviews on the Goosebox. If I get another 5er that's the hitch that will be on it.
I'd use one any day & twice on Sunday before I'd even try the 35lb aluminum pyramid with a 16.5k+ lb 5th wheel.

Well since you mentioned it... I'd trust 4 wraps of bailing wire before I'd try that 35 pound pyramid of aluminum.

Maybe some very small saddle? type, U bolt cable clamp would work.

If you know a local fisherman that makes his own steel leaders he could make a new cable. Heck you could do it with some Malin brand stainless leader material. A 2 piece length with 2 loops and a steel bead should work. No tools needed except a wire cutter. Just have to make nice tight wraps.

So gave myself another present to go along with the Goosebox. This is gonna be real handy! Connected to channel 2 of my 5er’s rear view camera screen.

Hmm, I'm installing the reese goose box on my new trailer in about a month. And I'll be using the furrion camera system with the side cameras that apparently nobody uses. Maybe I can use them in the bed to get that kind of picture.

I take it you have a short bed? What kind of clearance will you have with this. As much as I love my Pullrite, I would like my bed space back if possible.

Not anymore. My prior truck was a SWB F250. The new one is a 450. I did not buy another hitch when I made the trade.

I had the same problem with the cable stop, so I added one from the hardware store, shown. It hasn't budged since. And with over 30k miles on the goosebox, I would never use anything else.

There's a reason one frame manufacturer won't cover anything aftermarket but.

To the dismay of all the folks that like the arch carving competition.
