Autolevel keeps lifting my wheels off the Ground

I'm headed out to the dealer today to talk to them about my Cougar. We have made two trips to date and on each occasion when I engaged the autolevel system it lifts the trailer completely off the wheels. This cannot be good! The first time the site was pretty uneven and I thought that was the cause. This second time the pad was very level. Same result. The autolevel lifted the wheels off the ground. I took over manually and the funny thing is all I had to do was lower the rig down front and back til the wheels were down and it was still level but not hovering 3 inches above the pad! I am suspecting the autolevel system needs re-calibrated but I don't have any first hand experience with it. It's a Lippert system. Has anyone here and this issue?

Here are a couple of videos on how to re-calibrate your auto level system.

Hope this helps

Lol, yeah looked a lot that that. I may have discovered the issue and its operator's error. I followed the instructions I was given in our orientation class and that may be wrong.

I was told:
1 Put the jacks legs down to about an inch of the ground
2 Lift the hitch off the truck manually
3 Start autolevel

The instructions actually says
1 Bring jack legs down to about 4 to 5 inches above the ground
2 Use the up/down arrow and select front jacks down then enter
3 Lift the hitch manually
4 Start autolevel

So it may just be me. I'll try again when we take her out again.

I'm confused with "lifting the hitch manually"? Are you physically lifting the hitch up?

I think he means lift it “off” the hitch manually but I could be wrong.

No, just lowering the front legs (manually) so that the weight of the trailer is taken off the hitch....

I have never heard of or seen this in the instructions for the system. There should be a instruction placard near your control box.

If you need to reset the system, this is what I have researched and learned to do. And it works.

First, unhitch from the TV. After disconnecting from the TV, it helps to be connected to shore power for this. Next, manually level your RV. Then with the power off on your control box, press the up arrow on the control pad five times. Then immediately press the down arrow on the control pad five times.

The system will then start recalibrating. Watch the contol box as it will also ask you to press enter to confirm recalibration. Hope this helps.

These are the same instructions I have printed on my 3.0 system. I have the front jacks marked to 5" for the "pinned" extension. Once these are extended I scroll to the prompt lower front jacks. Hitting enter, the front jacks are lowered and "grounded". The idea of holding the front arrow button down while the jacks extend to lift the pin from the hitch, I believe, is for safety. Release the button and everything stops. Once the hitch is cleared and the truck is out of the way just hit Auto Level. Works fine every time for me

Uh, nah, I just lift the hitch off by leaping up and standing in the bed, squatting, grabbing the hitch and with a grunt, I straighten my legs to the sound of hamstrings snapping, L1 thru L6 lumbar cracking and two hernias popping, and while I hold it there, my DW drives the truck away.... Well I might be exaggerating a bit. I mean I held the front jacks button until the hitch is clear of the ball (Using a Reese Goosebox).

The instructions are right there on the wall, you'd think I would have followed them. The problem for me is to squat in the doorway and then lift my head high enough to read the instructions with my progressive lens glasses (no mean feat!).

In short I skipped the step about using the auto jacks down feature. I have to believe that is the issue. I think the system has to know where the ground is and this is how it knows.

As to marking five inches to pin the legs is a great idea. I'm gonna steal it. Thanks for the help. I will know if I have to re-calibrate the next trip.

When we had our 27' bumper pull, I'd just "curl" the tongue off the hitch
Now with the 5er I've found using one of these helps kneeling down to see the Ground Control panel. Absolutely squat proof and no more trips to the chiropractor.

I used to have the same issue. This what I do now. I unhook from the Tow Vehicle. I then take a look on how the trailer is sitting. Is it high in the front? If it is I lower the jack on the front so the trailer looks level. I then go and hit the auto level. Most of the time this works when the site is fairly level.

Call Lippert Support.
They actually have people that know their stuff and can talk you through troubleshooting. I didn’t have to be on terminal hold to speak to them.
