Truck and 5th Wheel question
I have a 2015 Chevy 2500 with he 6l V8. Crew with standard bed. Currently towing a Laredo 303TG with max weight of 9,100#. Wife is now looking at a Laredo 5th Wheel 346RD rated at 10,745# dry with 2,255# carrying capacity and hitch weight of 2,240#. Truck is listed at 14,300 5th wheel towing and payload of 3,441#. GCWR is 20,500. So with not knowing mutch about 5th wheel towing I'm looking for any input or advise.

Take a look at the sticker on the door, or better yet head over to a scale and get the actual weight of your truck. I'm betting the payload is a good bit less than the dry pin weight you listed.. Then consider at least 20% of the GVWR of the trailer as the "WET" pin weight...
I'll bet your 2500 is over-matched or very close to max with that 5'er.

Is your truck 2WD or 4WD...?? Your sig shows 4WD, & there's a big difference in the "listed" payload #'s.
2WD (3,441 lbs) -vs- 4WD (2,493 lbs)

Keep in mind that the "listed" payload (literature/brochure) doesn't account for factory options, i.e. the "listed" # is an "up to" x lbs (possible), not a guaranteed x lbs on every vehicle. The load/payload sticker for your specific truck, as built, can be found on the driver's side door frame area.
If you plan/expect to stay within the truck's 9500 lbs GVWR, then check your payload sticker, and base your FW choices on your family of 5, 'plus' pets & any gear/stuff in the truck, 'plus' the FW hitch (itself) 'plus' the "loaded" pin weight. Remember: same as with your TT (empty/dry hitch weight is listed), the FW's also list empty/dry pin/hitch weights.

I think you will be right near the edge for your truck. you may want to cosider a 3500. iI know lots of folks here like the single rear wheel but me it will always be a daully. my 2 cents the just pull better and are more stable in the wind. good luck with the up grade

That's what I was doing wrong - did't realize I selected the 2WD. Looked at the door sticker and my cargo is listed at 2,741. The FW itself is withing the tow rating, however I see what you all mean about the payload. Now time to explain all this to the wife.

You will be surprised how quick that pin weight soars. My Montana is listed with a 2175 pin weight. Add the bedroom A/C. Then I moved the under/frame spare to the storage bay, loaded the 3 camp chairs, Coleman stove, a few tools, and I'm at 2700. My truck payload is 3265. After we get a washer/dryer combo, I won't have a lot of spare capacity.
I think you will be pushing the limit, probably over.

Another plus for the Andersen Ultimate hitch at 74# for the gooseneck bed version. The rail mount version is even less weight. My back is grateful already.
Also, having the garage will allow for some creative weight and balance corrections.

You will be at or over payload, no doubt loaded with a 12,500 fiver (estimated pin weight loaded will be around 2500). Do you have 3:73 or 4:10 axle? With the GM 6.0 gasser, the heaviest trailer you can pull is 9,900 +/-. With the 4:10 and 6.0 gasser, the tow rating jumpsto 14,300 +/-.

I can say that I have a 2011 6.0 ext. 6.6 bed 4wd. And run all bw hitch and air lift air bags. I have a 2015 cougar hc 313RLI and empty weight was just under 10,000. I am over weight for sure but on flat land and it does fine with some patients. I have put kn cai and have a 4" dyno max cat back system to flow more air. Heard pulling stock to hard pulls/stretche manifold studs. Also put a bully dog. It's a gasser so it likes the rpms and the rpms like the fuel lol so the math there is easy. I am in the process of a new 3500 Denali which I am sure will do the trick and put all my worries and thoughts aside and enjoy the ride. The BW equipment is pricey and heavy duty biggest thing American made. I love my companion as well. Good luck and hope this helps a little.
