2012 Keystone Passport ultra light slide cable broke

2012 Keystone Passport ultra light - slide cable broke

Dealer quoted $775 in labor plus $50 for cable. WTF???
Said its a 6 hour job
It's the top cable on one slide

I don't see how it takes 6 hours no matter how many panels they remove... Plus $121 a hour labor rate is insane....

And how the heck do these break? It's not even 2 years old...

I'm such an idiot for buying a $20k camper and being OK with a 1 year warranty.

I'm not a happy camper!!!

Oh, they had my travel trailer for 1 week before calling me with the labor cost. As for the cable, it was his guesstimate on the $50.

So far it's been in for a leaking external shower system, a leaking internal hose due to cracking for an unknown reason ( I use a water pressure regulator), a broken slide seal, and now this....

Oh, the wife just reminded me about the buttons on the cushions, or I should say the missing buttons because they all fell off. And the external lights stopped working... The 1 by the door and the 1 by the dump tanks.. Bulbs are fine as well as the fuses... ???

I should of bought a Tent !!!

2650BH and nothing is ever working correctly. Every time I look at it I remember more issues. Even the battery box strap broke after 6 months.

What kind of issues are you having?

slide cable broke

I have a 2012 31bhpr Premiere Ultralite and the slide cable for the dining room snapped. I was opening the slide when the room jerked and a loud pop sounded... The cable was loose after on the rear side of the room... I searched top to bottom, then found the motor and cable connectors above the slide. I was able to remove the trim, found where the installers hadn't tighten down the retaining nut on the cable adjusters and when sliding, the two adjuster rotating in opposite directions were hitting each other instead of passing each other closely... One of the eyebolt bolts had shattered so; I looked online and found a replacement cable kit, ordered it, replaced just the eye bolt and reinstalled. I tightened the retaining nut so the eyebolt couldn't twist out of line under tension and it's worked since without any problems. I just had to work a few times sliding the room in and out to get the top and bottom adjustments working in tandem... It's actually a pretty simple fix if that is your problem. My slides are cable driven, not all are... Hope that helps. I got the cable slide pack on ebay I think... I'll monitor this thread and if you can't find the kit I'll send you the link and maybe some pics the next time I'm around the camper...

Dealers stay in business because of repairs...

If your cable didn't pop and it was the bolt. Then you'll have plenty enough cable to wrap around the service guys neck...

BTW what I meant about the "having to slide the room in and out to get both cables to work in tandem" was that I had to adjust the tension/length on the eye bolt until the top and bottom of the room seated properly at the ame time... took maybe an hour fixing once I had the kit and figured out the problem... good luck...
