City Water Fills Frest Water Tank

We have 2018 Outback 330RL. When we are hooked up to city water it also fills our fresh water holding tank, after the first day we have water pouring out the overflow port and the tank is full. If this is from a bad valve where would the best place be to get a new one?

i'd push the warranty issue if it is an '18


as for the valve, any dealer or google it.

The fresh water tank should not fill when you are hooked up to city water. The fresh water holding tank should have a separate fill line that is used for filling the tank, the city water hook up should be a separate connection entirely.

Not to hijack the thread, but I've always wondered WHY RVs don't offer a momentary valve that allows you to fill the holding tank from the shore feed, instead of having to move the hose every time. It is a convenience I've wished for for years. Sure, there's a risk if the valve breaks in the open position, but it's no different from the risk you get with any sink, shower, or toilet (actually much less, as the overflow comes out the outdoor fitting instead of all over your floors).

I have that option by turning the valve I can fill the fresh water tank from shore water. I don't use it because like the OP has water by passing his valve and filling the fresh water holding tank.

Do you have the Anderson 4 way Kant leak valve. If you do check out this video, a bad valve will fill the tank when on city water. They are easy to fix,

Whether or not you have that valve, you will still have a check valve at or in the pump that keeps the city water pressure from flowing backwards through the pump and filling the FW tank.
We had this happen on our first trip with the Laredo. I shut off the city water and used the pump for a day and the problem went away. May have been a "stuck" check valve or may have been some left over construction debris that was lodged in the check valve and using the pump dislodged it. Don't know - but it works okay now. If it happens again, I guess I'ii tear into the pump.

I had this issue and running the pump did nothing to fix it so instead of replacing the function pump because of a defective check valve I simple visited my local hardware store and purchased a 1/2 inch shark bite check valve. I cut the line after the pump and installed the check valve. Now I no longer have the issue. the pump works fine and the check valve keeps the city water from filling up the holding tank. One day if I need to replace the pump it will have a back up check valve.

Racers I have the same valve.And had the same problem. I opened and closed the valve several times and it stopped feeding the fresh water tank .I also drained the fw tank and left the drain open so I know it is not putting any water into the tank.

They do offer this setup. Our Keystone Fuzion 420 5th wheel has a turn valve at the wet bay city water hookup. One way feeds the entire water system in the rig and the other way directs the water into the freshwater tank. The separate access to the freshwater tank is really an overflow vent tube. Yes you can fill there but you’ll note there aren’t threads for a hose to attach to. Just an open vent tube. There is also a dump valve under our rug to drain the freshwater tank quickly.

My 2015 Keystone Laredo 240MK HAS that feature. It is a valve you just turn a 1/4 turn and the water flows into the tank. However I too have had and still have the same problem with water filling the tank when on city water. It is presently in the shop for that same problem. I think it is a malfunctioning check valve that causes water to flow where it is not needed. We'll see. But the filler valve is available, it runs about $ 90.00 plus install. It is called: JR Products DVF-1-A Fresh Water Fill Diverter Valve.

Had the same problem on my outback. Found that if you hook up city water run it till all air escapes from faucets. Then you have to run the fresh water for about 1 minute this relieves pressure on your check valve. Now you want have issues with city water filling the fresh water tank. I believe the check valve gets stuck with air pressure forcing it opened. Had to do this every hookup but never had to replace any valves. This worked for me hopefully this will be your fix also. Keep a check on your fresh water level indicators to verify that this works for you.

Don't know how widespread this is, but as a newbie it never occurred to me until someone clued me in...

Instead of hooking up an empty hose and then pushing a bolus of air through my RV system, I outfitted my hose male end with an inexpensive brass valve. I attach to the camp faucet, fill the hose, and then close the valve before screwing it into the RV. That way, I get only an insignificant bubble of air fed, which keeps the RV plumbing happier. Plus, if I leave the rig for an extended time, I can always flip that eye-level valve closed for belt-and-suspenders plumbing safety.

At setdown time, I can shut the valve off before unscrewing to minimize sprayback, and allow me to tote the hose someplace more suitable for rewinding and draining.

We installed a cut-off valve similar to the one in post #15. We seldom use the fresh water tank, so I installed the valve after the water pump just to insure that if the pump check valve fails, the fresh water tank won't fill up. If we want to use the fresh water tank, we just open the valve.

I can only assume that the fill valve is a cheap as they can possibly be. I try not to operate it under flow, shut off the hose, change positions on valve.
