Setting up new 5er hitch ??

Hello, I just got my new Pull Rite 18K hitch and have a few questions. I did a test fit an I have just under 6" gap between the bed rails and the 5er. What is the standard or recommended amount of gap? Here are a few pics I took. Thx for the help...

Also the Pull Rite came shipped in the lowest of 4 settings. I'm thinking of going up with the pin at least an inch to the next setting up...

As I recall, it is a bare minimum of 6".
