299 fk furnace issue

Furnace works great but this year i can smell propane out side by the exhaust port. Can smell it in the inlet above the exhauat port and also faint smell on inside where furnace located. Took cover off and then panel off side of furnace. All looks very clean including fittings. Anyone run into this prob or can point me in the right direction. Tia.

Did it fire up the first time you started it or did it go through a couple of starting sequences?

Is it most noticeable on startup or shut down?

You can buy gas leak detector, don't use soap, and put it on all the fittings. If bubbles form there's a leak there. If not, you could see if you can get an HVAC tech with a gas sniffer and an electronic combustion analyzer to check it out.

Not to minimize the importance at all, it should definitely be investigated, but we semi regularly get a call where someone walks by their furnace vent and catches a whiff of gas. Usually it's on startup or shut down and it shouldn't happen often. OTOH propane is pretty stinky and it's pretty easy to get a faint odor. Good luck with it.
