Heading to Nova Scotia and Newfoundland

This year we are doing the north east. We are going up through New England, through Nova Scotia and Newfoundland.
Does anyone have any tips for places to go and things to do?
TIA

We have done the Maritime Provinces several times. I will dig out my files and stacks of brochures we picked up along the way and send you some ideas.

We entered New Brunswick from coastal Maine for the Bay of Fundy and Flower Pot Rocks (Hopewell Rocks), then Nova Scotia, Cape Bretton Island, Prince Edward Island and then way up to Gaspé before coming back along the Saint Lawrence River and then South through Maine, into New Hampshire and the White Mountains and then home.

Thats a great time of year, too bad you'll be missing the spectacular fall foliage colors! I don't know how much time you will be in New Hampshire or Maine, but the White Mountains and Mt Washington (NH) are well worth seeing. You can drive to the top of Mount Washington or take the Cog Railway (if it still is in operation). If you are shoppers L.L. Bean headquarters is in Freeport ME. Downeast Maine is also a great area to spend some time. Bar Harbor and Acadia State Park are two places in particular. Downeast is a great place to get some Lobster (Lobsta as the natives say)!

We drove the around the entire Island of Nova Scotia, as I recall the SE side is similar to Downeast ME. In Truro Nova Scotia is a Tidal Bore worth the time. When we saw it, it was only 4 feet tall. I think there are charts that predict time and height. The bay of Fundy is known for one of the largest Tidal swings.

We took the Blue Nose Ferry from Bar Harbor ME to Nova Scotia; I understand that ferry has been replaced with a faster and more expensive ferry. It only takes about 4 hours now. When we went it was more like 11. Times change.

I should also add that Machias Seal Island in the Bay of Fundy is a great place to see sea birds, if you are into that kind of thing.

I never made the opportunity to visit Newfoundland, my loss, I heard its very beautiful.

Even though I live on the West Coast now, I would love to get back to New England to see how things have changed from 21 years ago. My guess is I wouldn't recognize a lot of it.

Enjoy your trip!!

We underestimated the popularity of the ferry from North Sydney to Port aux Basques. Could not get the day sail we wanted so ended up with a night sail. Not a big problem except we purchased a room for the night and got to the campground at about 8 am, a personal best for us! Reserve the ferry as soon as you know your itinerary. Very expensive trip for the RV, but great people and beautiful country.

You gotta visit Oak Island! Watch the boys dig holes, find chunks of old metal and lots of old rotting wood as they dig! https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oak_Island

We have traveled the Trace many times over the years and never failed to discover something new every trip. And I might add, y’all did a fine job on your video!
