5 gal fresh water system

Has anyone out there added a 5 gal fresh water system similar to what Jayco is doing on a cougar 316rls? Looking for recommendations on a pump that is quiet and doesn't rattle the island when it is being used. Saw a few on Amazon but cant find any YouTube videos of it being used to gauge how loud it is when running. Looks like I would be able to place a plug under the sink from by piggybacking off the one on the outside of the island.

Might I simply ask what a five gallon fresh water system is and where you find a Jayco Cougar?
Would this be a five gallon water heater under-counter or something along this line? And Maybe a Keystone Cougar?

Jayco has a fresh water system that uses a five gallon bottle under the island. Looking to see if anyone has done that with their Cougar.

I’m guessing it’s a reverse osmosis type system. Never seen one, not really sure how well they work. Don’t see why one couldn’t be added to any RV. They also make a triple filter system that doesn’t require the holding tank. I’ve considered adding that to mine, but haven’t really seen a need to make it worth the hassle. I use filters on the rv water hose, I also take water jugs that I fill from the home RO system for coffee.

This is a very simple system. It includes a water cooler 5 gallon water jug (to be put under the sink that can be filled with filtered water), a small water pump 110AC, a residential style water spout on the counter. This system is in every Jayco Eagle RV. I figured someone has copied the system in a Cougar at some point. With putting a water pump in the island I want to find one that is as quite as possible. Not that it will be running all that often but if someone gets a glass of water in the middle of the night don't want to wake everyone in the RV.

I used a 3 gal potable water jug in my truck camper, used vinyl tubing and a 12v. dc windshield washer pump with a momentary switch for power. Cheap, simple and quiet. mounted a faucet similar to below.

Not enough volume for a shower but fine to fill a glass for a drink.

From Jayco owners site:

“ It is an independent system that feeds a small drinking water water type faucet on the kitchen sink and the refrigerator ice maker. It uses a 5 gallon drinking water type jug mounted in the storage bay for the water source and an on demand pump mounted in the kitchen island to provide the flow from the jug. In theory it is a great idea to always know that you are getting drinking water from a jug you fill with known quality water.

In application it is more of a pain in the rear than it is worth, in my opinion. If you are at a campground and need to refill the jug your options are go to someplace that sells these type jugs with supposedly quality water or just refill it from the campground source. Option two is the easiest which gains you nothing. I needed the storage space the jug took up so I removed it, disconnected the feed line from the pump and using my PEX kit attached to the cold water feed to the kitchen sink with a shut off valve, just in case. We have the outside filter which does some good but found using the water from the fridge door dispenser is better probably because it is filtered again thru the ice maker/water filter in the fridge.”

Simple search reveals answers.

Here's our solution to adding on a 5 gallon separate water system, um.... in our Montana High Country:

We keep it simple by using an inline filter for the big stuff, and a Brita filter pitcher for drinking water. But we do sanitize our fresh water tank every season.

I've not seen that (or paid attention) when looking at a Jayco. My thought would be (in case you haven't thought of it ) is why? If only for an occasional drink at night and not wanting the pump to come on....use bottled water!! Same thing; water in a plastic bottle but no pump. For us I wouldn't waste the space or weight plus I would probably be "grumping" at folks getting up and wandering around the trailer in the middle of the night messing with my sleep..

Sounds like the perfect solution looking for an issue. In my thinking a simple undercover filter and drinking water dispenser in the countertop. If the pump is too load at night then put bottled water in the fridge.

Looks like the great ideas of blue lights under the cabinets, outside speakers, and those 1/2 ufo, 1/2 used car lot lights mounted on the front cap of so many units these days.

We also use an inline sediment filter but use a Zero Water filter pitcher as I was impressed by their ads on television that they filtered more "stuff". We use the pitcher for making coffee and such. We also carry some bottled water in case someone wants to drink water. I put single serve lemonade packets in the bottles to make lemonade.

We just use bottled water for drinking, then use the fresh 100 gal water for dishes, showers. etc. I don't need something else to remember to "winterize" each year.

I wouldn't have it. Just another thing to leak. As was mentioned if you want to drink water drink either bottled water or use some sort of filter (brita, zero, whole camper filter etc. I am getting one of these for my camper just to protect all the plumbing from whatever comes from the campground to use in sinks/shower. For drinking water always use bottled/filtered water at a campground

Just my .02, YMMV
