TV freezes when dining light turned on

Hi, has anyone else had the issue of the TV screen freezing when you turn the light on over the dining table or plug into the USB charging station? Also froze the TV when cigarette lighter adapter used with USB cord.

I've not heard of anything like that happening, but with today's technology, it's possible the television is getting some kind of interreference.

If you can run a separate power cord to the television and plug it directly into shore power (not through the camper) and then try the USB devices, see what happens? If the same thing still happens, then the interference is definitely not being caused by anything electrical inside the camper wiring. The interference is coming over the air. In which case, there is no control over that. It just happens with today's over the air televisions. (I'm assuming you are watching over-the-air with your antenna.

Is this something that just started, or has it always done this. Sometimes, location can cause weird things to happen on over-the-air television also. Electricity does interfere and does cause pixel freeze. Even an airplane flying over head can cause signal interference too.

It is the first time we noticed this because most times we are not in an area for watching TV. We will try plugging directly into power and see what happens. Thank you

LED light arrays (they aren't really "bulbs" in a literal sense) have a voltage regulator chip on them. That voltage regulator produces "RF energy" that is a harmonic frequency of the TV and/or radio tuner frequency.

When you turn on the light, if that specific LED array voltage regulator is not properly functioning or if the ground circuit is not working properly, the "leaked RV energy" can be picked up by the TV receiver or by the radio receiver and it can affect reception, sometimes by visible interference on the screen or sometimes by blocking the TV signal, causing pixilation or a blank screen.

It usually affects weaker signals rather than strong signals, so it is often "location related" and you may see it at one campsite and not see it at many other campsites, more depending on the antenna reception/signal strength than other factors...

If it's happening only occasionally, possibly just avoid turning on that light when it happens. If it's frequent, you might consider replacing that LED light fixture or possibly exchange it for one that's further from the television and the antenna.

The USB charging stations have a similar voltage regulator chip and can cause a similar problem because of the same reasons.

Usually the culprit is RFI radiated either from the overhead LED lights and the USB charger that's built into the wall outlet.. They both are what I call RF "Trash Masters" in the world of HF radio operations

Often since its a radiated RFI issue you can "Decouple" the RFI form the TV set by using snap on ferrite bead chokes...

One on the power cord of the TV set to decouple it from the TVs 120 volt power lead and one on the coax feed to TV set to decouple it from the TV sets internal Receiver will take care of the issue...

see the file on whats needed and how to use it

Had lots of snow and interference show up on TV every time we turned on a light. They were the touch sensor lights with a kind of bronze outer casing. Replaced them with simple plastic LED lights with switched and all is clear now!
