No Power in RV

Our camper is at a seasonal site this year. We were last there 2 weeks ago and when we leave, we keep electric on for the fridge, air set at 79, turn water off from outside and lock up. When we arrived late Thursday night, I unlocked the door and low and behold no power. Must have been off for some time as everything in freezer was fully defrosted. I checked the pedestal that my EMS is plugged in and that shows power, no errors. I unplugged, turned breakers on/off, tried neighbors 50 amp, checked circuit breaks inside RV and they were not tripped. After trying all that, I still have no power.

At a loss of what to do, it was hot and raining, so we turned around and came home (about an hour drive).

I am going to head up there this afternoon and see if I can figure out anything and have a neighbor that knows a little about electricity (I know very little).

Wanted to inquire on here if anyone has any thoughts?

Much appreciate any thoughts/ideas!

Did you check for voltage comming out of the EMS? When you plugged into the known live outlet with the EMS how long did you wait? Depending on the EMS it could have a 2 min delay built in before power is passed thru.

Does your trailer have a built in generator or pre-wired for one?.....in other words does it have a transfer switch that they put in them if they have a generator or if they are pre-wired for a generator. If YES, the transfer switch might be a good place to check. Transfer switches are normally set up for generator bias, so that when you are operating on shore power, there is a time delay for the transfer switch to operate and allow shore power to work. Also, if you have a transfer switch, they do go bad occasionally and if they fail, it is likely it would have resorted back to "generator" mode.

The EMS cycled through and when I see “E0” it is meant as no issues. I even tried plugging in cord of RV without EMS and got same result. I didn’t have a test reader with me but bringing one up to check that.

I have a generator that I had put in when RV was built. Where would the transfer switch be located Nd is that something I can simply “switch” back?

If you EMS is showing E0 then it must be a Progressive unit? If you, open up the panel that is over or around your power center and check the power cord wires where they attach if you are at all handy with a multimeter. Since you have 50A service, you will need to check both positive legs and the white neutral wire buss. The legs go into individual "main" fuses I would guess (never had a 50A camper). If the EMS is showing no errors, suspect the connected where the white neutral wire connects to the buss. If you are not handy with a multimeter, or electrical, time to call the tech as you are working with engergized circuits.

The ground???

More than once I have chased a power problem on my boat. I started at the hot feed and followed it all the way to the load finding no issue. Ultimately, it wasn't the hot line at all. The circuit just did not have a good ground.

As you check the wires, follow the ground as well.

If your having to wait a long time for replacement, you can swap the incoming leads. Just unplug and leave the gen off.

Thanks for that. I count myself lucky… Earlier this year I found a great and reliable mobile RV repair person. His distributor has it in stock so should have Tuesday and fixed Wednesday in time for our weekend trip!
