Happy Thanksgiving!
Hope everyone is having a good day!
Take a moment to send a text or call someone you haven’t heard from in a while….the holidays can be a happy time for most people and also a sad time for those that may be alone for whatever reason…good time to extend an olive branch or just reconnect with family members or coworkers.
I’m really thankful for my family and all in all it’s been a great year
Have a good day people and thanks for the answers to my questions and general comradery!

Echo those thoughts. I need to call an aunt I haven't seen in years.
We have completed the holiday cooking hand off. No more spending 2 days on our feet prepping meals. Kids: it is your turn. So no more smoked turkey from gobblegobble.com (the best I ever had), or Betty's famous cornbread dressing. What are we having? Smoked beef brisket and smoked pork ribs. The son and son in law are cooking the meat. Daughter and daughter in law are doing the sides.
It's all good.

Sounds like a feast…my mil has passed the torch to my wife for the last couple a years..it was a joint venture before that…my daughter is becoming an expert at the deserts and I’m sure one day it will all be passed on to her

OK, what the heck? Handing off? The young'uns doing it? How did we work that deal?
Not really but sort of. Always did Thanksgiving with us doing everything with the kids at home, when they went to college etc. Then with the in laws...and the kids and extended folks. Kids grew up and went away but came back for TG and we cooked. Now, decades later, after DW, DD, DDL etc. tried their hands at doing turkey, we're back to square one as folks are spread all over.
With different outcomes with DD and friends trying to do the TG turkey I offered to do turkey breasts on the GMG pellet smoker. Well, that was 3 years ago and now I can't get out of it. This is for DD and her family here in FL. DW said she never wants another roasted turkey in an oven heating up the house or RV...I do it on the smoker.
Just back a bit ago; GGDs made their favorite sides, DD made her specialties, DW made our dressing and giblet gravy and I smoked the turkey.
Fantastic holiday, fantastic being with family and fantastic food contributed by all.
With all the wacko things going on it's easy to get misdirected and short tracked into pre planned narratives pushed by some. At this time of year (and upcoming Christmas) we all need to just enjoy and be happy with the simple things we've been blessed with. Examples; puppy has a growth on her leg. The orthopedic/cancer specialist said "it's not very good, but it's not that bad either" although it is malignant. DSIL had a growth on the back of his tongue; it had to be cut off but it was not malignant......not so bad in the scheme of things.
Tired and long day but we all need to be thankful and enjoy our blessings no matter what they are.

We just told them we couldn't do it anymore, well Betty couldn't. Her feet and knees are shot, she should have surgery for a knee replacement. I think we both needed to see our kids doing it.
There's a bit of collateral damage here. My 2 nieces never did anything towards Thanksgiving or Christmas dinners. Both degreed and hot careers and can't boil water, and don't seem too interested in learning. My sisters would slave away in the kitchen and their daughters would sip wine and ask when dinner will be ready. Left a real bad taste in our mouths. We decided that wasn't happening to us. We shared the prep the last 2 years and this year they took the reins. Turned out real nice
Our son and daughter, their kids, sons in laws sharing a fine meal with 3-5 year old grandkids running through the house.
Living the dream.

Our oldest daughter took over hosting and cooking several years ago. DW and I have to many health issues to continue the 30+ holiday dinners we once held. She is a great cook and makes everything with fresh ingrediants. She and her hoys have some food alergies so she doesn’t use any processed foods. Her husband calls it "her Superbowl" as she puts on quite the spread.
Our younger daughter makes her specialties dishes and brings them and I still get up early and fire up the smoker. I'm just not a fan of turkey so I'll typically smoke about 30 lbs of beef and pork. After dinner everyone pitches in and cleans up, packs up the leftovers while the grandchildren play. Then we set down and watch Christmas Vacation. We all leave with boxes of food and vow to "cut back" and not make so much food next year but that never seems to happen.
Before anyone gets judgemental about wasting food thats not what happens. We have some family and some acquaintances that are homebound or alone that we deliver a "Thanksgiving Dinner" to that they can easily warm up in their microwave. Thats our tradition. I hope eveyone had a great day.

It’s good hearing about passing on traditions and you can never have too much food lol. I can eat leftovers for a week and be happy.
Too many people in the younger generations are taught to be “dependent” on their family’s….and on the Government.
They never learn the basic skills like cooking food or general maintenance on vehicles or upkeep on a house or just independent thinking and problem solving skills.
