The material is darco and IMO about the last thing that should be placed in a wheel well since it is so flimsy. Rocks, gravel, road debris thrown up by the tires puts small punctures through the darco, lets water into that wood layer then retains it causing the wood to rot. I chose to put a layer of uhmw poly material over that area vs leaving the darco after a blowout. It was pretty simple to do and I didn't worry about stones popping up, perorating the darco and then driving through a rainstorm and destroying the flooring.
