Gen diverter

I have a pair of 2K watt generators, similar to the popular “red” gens. I am wondering if anyone has seen any kind of exhaust diverter for them? When we set the gens up as far away as we can, the wind will often blow the exhaust back at us. I know that on board gens can get diverted s, and are required in some parks, but have not seen anything like that for portables. Any ideas?

There are several companies that make adapters which bolt/screw onto the exhaust flange where the spark arrester is installed. There are some rigid and some flexible exhaust "hoses/pipes" that mount onto those flange adapters.

I'd caution you that diverting the exhaust for a "sizeable distance" does come with some hazardous considerations. First, keeping a long device safe from damage is not an easy task when RV'ing and moving the diverter around in a camping environment. Second, the devices I've seen mount to the exhaust and are metal. Metal absorbs heat from the exhaust and some of them actually get hot enough to "glow". Protecting pets and children from being burned as well as protecting the campground from the potential for starting a fire are all considerations you'll need to address.

I have a "remote exhaust" installed in my pole barn to exhaust our emergency generator. It is 8' long and exits the building about 5' above the generator. At night, after several hours of operation, that tube actually glows a dull orange. I have no doubt that if leaves or a mouse's acorn cache were in contact, I'd have "bright yellow flames" within an hour or two of starting the generator. So, plan the "unintended consequences" as well as the "conveniences".....

Gen diverters

Thanks for the information. If I do put one on I will for sure keep my dogs away from them. The dogs hate them anyway...
Any idea where I should start looking for the diverters?

If those are the construction type generators you may want to add mufflers to the diverters.

I have a 50’ 30 amp extension cord that I use when running our Honda’s, so I can put them at either end of the rig depending on conditions and not have to worry about the exhaust entering the rig. Might be easier than dealing with long exhaust pipes.

Gen diverters

That is what I have been doing: plug my 30 amp cord into my 50 amp cord. Them cords are heavy! Thought a pipe might be easier, but perhaps not. Thanks.
