Freezer down to -16F

I've been thinking since I got this that the freezer was too cold, even though I have it set to 8 degrees F. I finally put a thermometer in it to check and wasn't too surprised to find this reading based on how solid our ice cream is. Impossible to dig out.

So what's the scoop? It's a brand new residential fridge.

Re: Freezer down to -16F

In my experience, freezers will go extra cold if the non freezer part of the reefer has the door partially open, or other leak letting the cold out. Check the seals?

That's pretty cold but fridges/freezers have a mind of their own @ times depending on the functional temps of your trailer. Also as posted above check your seals. If you don't hear the freezer door close with a suction feel/hear then there's a leak which is a simple repair.

This is brand new and the dealer is going to send someone out to fix it. Thanks

Mine here at home is like that. I put the ice cream in the microwave to soften it up some. I have discovered that Sears service techs must be rejects from the local mega RV dealer service department. So I ain't calling them again!

It's supposed to be a "man thing" not to read the owner's manual, but you'd think that Sears service techs would at least know if there is a manual... LOL

Gearhead, what kind of manly-man Texan would put ice cream in the microwave to "soften it up?"

Re: Freezer down to -16F

I solved the problem. I couldn't believe it was going to be something broke already so I started using my noggin. Turns out that because I have the water shut off to the ice maker and the ice maker was turned on, it was trying to freeze air. I turned off the ice maker and the the temp went up to the set temp.

All is well.

I was doing that as well. I wasn't going to buy anymore boxes of ice cream but now I can't wait.
