Leaving Forest River

Well wife and I pulled the trigger on a new 2013 Cougar 331 mks on Sat. We traded our 2010 Rockwood 5er in on it.
We pick it up on Valentines Day if mother nature will allow it.

everyone for the welcome. I am hoping we do not get the snow they are forecasting for our area. If so we have to wait until march 3rd to get the camper

Camperdad,

With you picking up your trailer in the next week or two, you might want to get the dealer to pressure wash the underside to get all the salt off of the frame and then when you plan the tow to your home, try to plan a day when there's little ice on the roads and hopefully there won't be much salt to "dirty" up the bottom.... We've got a few members who were unfortunate in that their new trailers weren't cleaned well and the salt that was on the frames created a significant problem in the first year. If possible, do what you can to prevent a problem before it happens

Good Luck,

Just curious what steered you away from Forest River. I've considered, off and on, one of their Cruisers trailer because they seemed to be pretty well made. Then I discovered they were owned by Forest River and had read some threads by unhappy owners, and I've decided to keep my Outback.

We have a 2013 331MKS and love it Had a problem with the bench style dinette if you have the free standing table and 4 chairs you will not have to worry Great layout and tows great. If you have any questions send us a private email, we have done a few mods that we could help you with if you wish
Enjoy the new trailer

Bob, we have owned 2 Rockwoods by Forest River. Travel trailer and now a 5ver and they have both been problem free. We had been looking at a Cougar 313rli floorplan because it was similar to a Rockwood 8289ws we had been looking at. The Rockwood does not come with a bedroom slide (wardrobe slide only) I found the Cougar 331 mks and we liked it. I found a great deal on a 2013 on the dealers lot for 28,000 and we looked it over last Sat. (3 hours) and decided we liked it. So I guess the layout and price helped us decide. Nothing against Forest River at all. It was just too good a deal to pass up, I mean 28,000 for new Cougar and they gave us 17,000 trade on my 2010 Rockwood. Dealer wanted that unit gone off the lot

JRTJH,
Good advice on cleaning the underside. We had a couple of small snows this past week 7 inches total. We are picking up the Camper on Friday the 14th we are supposed to have high 40's Tues. Wed and Thurs. I imagine the roads will be wet with melting snow. I will clean off the underside Sat. with my pressure washer to get the salt off thanks for bringing it to my attention. I did not even think about that.

Concours,
The wife and I saw that floorplan and we like the rear kitchen setup lots of room. No booth dinette we have the table and chairs, however the table has to be moved back 2 inches because the shade will not go all the way down it hits the table?? Dealer is doing that and adding a second ac in the bedroom for us. What mods have you made? I am looking at going from 32 ich tv to a 37 if I can get it to fit in the same space

When the dealer replaced the bench dinette with the free standing table I was concerned about the difficulty of opening the window shade but the problem is that when the slide is in there very little clearance between the island drawers and the table we hang a small towel between them when travelling. We changed the bottom step leading to the bedroom into an opening outdoor shoe box added an extra shelf to the kitchen cabinet, a storage rack in the front storage compartment, took out one of the recliners, reinforced the rear slide out bumper as it is very weak and cracked twice, modified the bedroom slide out TV stand to take a flat screen with a swing out mount , added insulation to the bedroom heat ductwork and replaced the dryer style ductwork with solid ducting. We have also purchased the Morryde XFactor cross rail and wet bolt kit which will be a spring time project. I can send pictures if you need them just give me some notice as the trailer is not stored at my house

Hi concours - Sounds like you have done some very nice mods. Would love to see pictures of them. If it's convenient.

Thanks

Welcome to the forum and congrats on your new rig. We did the same thing a few years back and have never regretted the decision. Big difference in quality for us and dealer service.

Congrats on the new trailer. We also switched from Forest River to Keystone. Liked Forest River & our dealer but didn't have a floorplan we liked as much as Keystone so we switched. Only used it a couple of times before we put it away but so far we like it. Just a few minor issues. Happy so far.
Now if it would only warm up a little here.

Concours pics would be nice when the weather gets better. We are excited about the new rig not excited we won't be able to use for a couple of months come on spring. It did hit 31 here today that's a heat wave compared to high teens we have had the last 6 days. We spent all day cleaning out the current rig so we can trade it in on Friday. Were supposed to have highs in 50's by end of week
