Quad, Hope this helps.
Hello Quad.
Your last thread was closed. I understand why.
On your trailer any GOOD LT truck tire will be fine. The Trans Force is a option. Some use the Michelin XPS Rib with excellent results and some of us went with Bridgestone Duravis R250. I personally do not see a reason for a G rated tire on your trailer.
The Marathon tire you probably have has a higher load rating, but is a ST tire speed rated @ 65mph. It weighs 37lbs. 235/80/16RE (if it is a Marathon, note (made in China)
The Bridgestone Duravis 235/85/16RE is a all steel tire, rated @ 3042lbs and has a speed rating of 101mph. It weighs 59 lbs. 22lbs heavier than a Marathon.
Your trailer is yours. My take is you can put what ever you want on it. I have read that some tire shops will not put a lower rated tire on a axle. Simple, find a different shop or do what I did, take 2 tires in, have them mounted, go home, get 2 more. Sold the Marathons on Craigs list.
Keystone installed 7K Dexter axles on my trailer. They then de-rated my axles by installing Marathon tires, rated the axle @ 6750 on my GVWR sticker. I removed the Marathon's and installed Duravis R250's which give my axles a load rating 6084lbs.
My Montana has a GVWR or 14,900lbs It presently weighs 14,500lbs total, loaded heavy. I have 3,200 on the pin. Axles are @ 11,300lbs I have about 5K miles on the tires and no issues.
I would also suggest getting a tire monitoring system. There are several brands out there. I went with the TST brand and the 507RV senders.
Jim
