key tv or cheap tv issues

My wife and i do not watch much tv but like to get the local news and watch during breakfast and a little in the evening.
I have read all of the issues people have with key tv and i have issues with mine as well.
i do a channel scan and all is good for a while but then sometime during the day i start losing channels and get pixelated pictures, i have the original subpar summit tv and haven’t got around to replacing it yet but plan to do so.

The weird part is when i lose channels and get pixelated pictures i found that i can do a rescan of all channels and i get the channels back plus a few more.

is it the junky tv or the key tv that is the issue? …or a combination of both?

I plan on getting a samsung or tlc tv but just curious if anyone replaced just the tv and issues were resolved

I assume you're talking about OTA and not cable or satellite? Depending on your location it may be normal for DTV to pixilate or drop out during the day and return in the evening. If the signal is marginal atmospheric conditions like heat or moisture can partially block or degrade the weak signal. I've had this happen and I don't have KEYTV.

From what I've read KeyTV typically either completly fails or works. As to new TV fixing the issue, who knows. The only real way to tell is replace it. I will say this, OEM tvs, like everything else in a trailer, is the cheapest item that can be found so the lowest performance should be the expectation. When connected to cable or a satellite reciever the tuner section of the TV isn't as important as it is when processing an OTA signal.

Just my opinion but there are usually 3 things that should be immediatly replaced in most trailers. 1. The tires if they are Trailer King or some other "off brand". 2. The mattress unless you can sleep on river rocks 3. The TV unless you NEVER turn it on. I would add the battery to that list but there are more variables associated with that.

You state that you plan to replace the TV so do it. Give that POS OEM away to kid or shelter and be done with it. In my opinion Samsung and Visio are good tvs for the cost. I shy away from the other brands like Insignia or whatever else Walmart , Amazon, Ebay, etc. offer.

JMO, YMMV

Lowest bid antenna, lowest bid KeyTV system, lowest bid coax cable, lowest bid coax connectors, lowest bid TV and lowest paid/experienced workers putting it all together in a rushed, you're too slow workplace environment... What could go wrong, except failed/inferior components, bad coax connector crimps, loose connectors at components, bad installation practices and/or the harsh environment of a "house rolling down the interstate, subjected to a hurricane, earthquake and tornado, all at the same time" .....

It may not be the TV (but it certainly could be the TV) but may be a combination of any/all of the above, plus the potential for poor digital TV reception.....

i noticed when i pulled the tv to wall outlet coax cable to inspect it i found the wall end had a 1/4” center wire extending past the connector and the tv end had about an 1/8” …the wires are made up at keystone it
looks like and they also have sharp bends and wire ties holding them out of the way..probably part of my problem

You absolutely want to see 1/4 inch of the center solid conductor sticking out of the coax connector on each and every one..

If not this can cause the center conductor to not mate well and result in poor TV recption.

Also use a wrench on the F connectors on the ends of the coax when installed to wall plate, splitters, etc.

Remove the KeyTV multisource controller and check EVERY F connector by removing and verifying the center conductor protrudes thru 1/4 inch

Reinstall and use a wrench to tighten each F connector

THe KeyTV Coax cables should have NO splitters since each TV set has a dedicated coax line and the signal routing is done internally via the control box

It sounds like as the day goes on and things warm up a bit your signals start to degrade. This indicates to me either poor coax cable connections or a KeyTV controller that gets hot and the components on the circuit board begin to fail due to heat

thanks for responding..i will check all of the cables when i get home…might just replace the wires i can get to ..i wondered about it getting hot..maybe install a computer fan behind it?
