Slide Cable

We are on the road, seven days from home and this is the top right side of the bedroom slideout. What do we do now?

This has come up quite a few times recently; I suggest your use the search function and use the advanced tab. I did "slide cable" and "mobile" and quite a few threads came up. I don't have your type slides so not much help with the tech aspect. One of our members just went through the same scenario but I can't remember the title of the thread but I am sure someone younger with a better memory can. He ended up buying a cable kit and having a mobile mechanic install if memory serves. He was in Texas traveling when he discovered the problem and then went farther west somewhere where the cable issue was fixed. I think you may be able to manually extend and retract that slide but someone with a cable slide will need to chime in in that regard.

It's kind of hard to tell in the picture, but if that cable is not COMPLETELY BROKEN, it can be taped up with some electricians plastic tape and be used to attach a new cable onto and pull through the pulleys etc to get the new cable in place. It is/would be much easier to do it that way than to remove the bad cable, then try to fish it through the pulleys, etc.

No, it's not completely broken, 1 strand left. Thank you for the idea.

Lol…John (JRTJH) had a really good explanation he gave me …( can’t remember all of it) about the fact that you are aware that you can’t remember everything is not so bad…it’s just your brain can only store so much new information and replaces the old info regularly with new …he said it was a healthy brain process…the alternative is worse…you don’t realize you can’t remember the things you can’t remember

I strongly recommend getting a mobile tech that is familiar with this type of slide. It is a lot more than just a short cable running through the wall. These are a push/pull operation and the cable goes in, turns, goes up, and turns again over to the motor. It has to be properly adjusted to seal the slide properly top and bottom. Not a simple repair.
I'm currently fighting a different problem while on the road. I'm having trouble with the bracket where the cable is attached (visible in your photo) trying to pull loose. Replacement screws haven't held, I will explore it deeper when I get to Colorado in a couple days.
I wish you well with your repair.
