Trying to choose between trucks....

I have never been so offended as I am right now. Kinda old and kinda crotchety? I AM old and I AM crotchety! I'm stuck in Florida and the highlight of my day was watching Lucas mow down three more desperados!

O man . I was sure it was done deal in the 13's. I remember it having to do with the clearance on the exhaust valves when truck would go into regen. I had 2 16's and neither gave me any problems. I really liked them allot. My 18,19, and now my 21 have been really good. I guess it hit or miss with any truck brand nowadays

What trim level does that truck have and what is the payload capacity?

I've heard that the 450 is heavier than the 350 but is still limited by the same GVWR -- so lower payloads.

It's a Lariat; payload is 4400lbs. My 350 only had 3074lbs.

Oh. My truck has a payload capacity of around 4400 +/-, which isn't enough to support the trailer we want

No more "sensitive" than some "SOB" owners who don't know a good truck when they see one.... I bought my Ford because it didn't have a bowtie on the grill. As for "ride quality", it's as good as or better than any comparable truck, doesn't have brake lines that rust out after 3 years and doesn't have Bullwinkle appendages...

To be quite frank, both my brothers in law retired from GM Truck and Coach. You couldn't give me a GM truck built in that plant.... Well, if you were literally "giving them away" I'd probably take two, sell them and buy a decent truck from a Ford dealership....

Ouch! Our 2016 Ram Laramie 3500 DRW has 5,411# payload, not sure I would give up 1,000# of payload for a tighter turning radius.

Interesting to hear and see all the comments about the one ton tow rigs. Everyone has an opinion which makes it interesting to see what others think. I'm looking at changing my 08 Dodge 2500 for a Ford F350, but I haven't decided on SRW or DRW. I want to maximize my load capacity since I use a truck camper. My wife really does not want to drive the truck and trailer (03 Cougar 276); she says she can't tow it. I keep telling her the truck does the towing, she would do the driving. Oh well, I still haven't convinced her.

So question becomes how large of a camper are you looking at? The other question is truck configuration regular cab or crew cab? If you are looking at max payload an F350 with a 7.3 should still be able to have a 14,000# GVWR, so would have a payload around 6,000#+.

For the record, my favorite combo would be a Ford truck with a Cummin engine and Allison transmission.

Cummins knows what they're doing when it comes to diesel engines, but don't underestimate the Ford 6.7, They got this one right. And as for the Allison, Chevy doesn't use it anymore. They have what they call an Allison "certified" transmission that's actually the joint venture ten speed built by Ford and GM.

Even the Ford 6 speed that came out in 2011 is a brute of a transmission. And Ram got a good one with the Aisin transmission too. I never really cared for the Duramax/Isuzu but it's really only because I've never owned one or even know anyone that has one. It appears that they are very capable too.

The company I work for bought a 2021 F250 4x4 and I've driven it a few times. Enough that I have determined that I like my 2011 better. Especially the interior and dash layout.

And my last two trucks have been duallies. My payload is higher than the F450 although that's really just a numbers game. We all know the F450 is the heavier duty truck. They're all a far cry from what we had in the 80's. Even the big block gassers were anemic at best with less than 200 hp and torque maybe around 350-375. And not a diesel worth mentioning other than the old tried and true Cummins 5.9 liter. Ahh, the good old days.....

Harry, Have you ever owned a truck camper? I had a Lance and it had a wet bath and my wife hated the wet bath. She didn't care for much about the truck camper and climbing out of the bed (over cab) at night to visit the bathroom was a real negative. Only thing I really didn't like was the dinette which had really uncomfortable cushions but would have fixed that but we sold the truck camper.
