You’ll probably see where the unit is secured into the space.
This is where you can put washers to shim it up in front or rear.
anyone have the manual or how to remove the top of stove?

got grate out easy enough...but 'top' around burners is like 'spring' loaded ???

You should be able to get your fingers in the seam right above the burner control knobs and pry the lid loose on the front. You will then see how to remove it, if necessary, at the rear. If it is porcelain, be very careful about using a screwdriver instead. Not a good idea.

If you don't have it already go get a set of nylon or plastic trim removal tools. HF sells them for <$10.

Most Atwood range tops either "pull forward about 1/4" or "push back about 1/4" to release the stovetop from the range.

Remove the grates/grills, the knobs and then use your fingers in the burner cutouts to pull the top toward you while you lift slightly. It should release from the front of the stove and lift off the range.

If that doesn't work, then push back slightly while lifting and it will release.
