Black Tank

Newbie here asking about a black tank. Just got a new to me 2010 Fuzion 398. I think the PO didn't empty the black tank. THe sensor says it is full 2/3rds. How can I tell if this is the right or if it is emptyl?. Naturally, don't want to spill sewer stuff on the driveway. Bad sensor? Open the black valve partially? or what? Mighty obliged.

It is extremely rare when black tank and gray tank sensors work beyond the first trip. Yours probably stopped working shortly after the rig was first sold. You should find a dump site and fill and empty all your tanks to get a feel how much they hold. The tanks are probably just fine.

Welcome to the forum.

To answer your question, chances are that the probes (contacts) inside the tank are "fouled" and not reading the correct liquid level in the tank. However, if you've never emptied the tank, why take a chance?

Find a dump station. Usually at any improved campground, state park and many rest areas on the interstate. Connect the tank to the dump station and pull the valve handle. Then you'll know whether or not the tank is empty. Flush it well, and while you're at it, dump the remaining tanks as well.

That way you'll be "starting fresh, with empty tanks"....

Don't rely on the sensor probes to give you accurate tank levels. Eventually you'll learn, by sound, the level in the black tank and you'll learn how many days, showers, etc you can expect before your gray tanks need to be emptied.

Do this when on the road between stops. After you dump pour 1 cup of Calgon or other water softner and 1/2 cup of dawn dish washing soap into the tanks. Add water to about 1/3 of a tank and 2 or 3 bags of ice right as you hit the road. The motion going down the road will splash the mixture around. The ice will help scour or break up any solids...like tp that made be stuck in there. Dump next time when full.
