On the Oregon side, Memaloose State park about mile post 74, I-84 and Ainsworth state park about mile post 35, exit 35, I-84 both have overnight camping and are minutes on/off he freeway. Both have the freeway traffic and 2 rail roads that you get to listen to all night. The first park is north of the freeway the second is south. Reservations likely not needed, number 1-800-452-5687.

Don't know where you are headed after Portland, but, just south of Portland is the Portland-Woodburn RV Park (Arney RD, exit 271 off I-5) nice, roomy park close to town & outlet malls.

Another possibility is Champoeg State Recreational Area. We've stayed here many times when traveling south or north via I5. It is located about 5 miles SW of Newberg which is south of Portland. Not sure how much further south you would like to drive but I would suggest this campground even though it is a ways off I5 and may be too far off your route for an overnight stay. Reservations are probably going to be needed.

I agree with Festus 100%, I have sayed in and worked all of those parks. If you want and peaceful night and can drive alittle longer Champoeg is the best. Get a reservation in summer. 36 bucks a night. By the way trains run in the gorge about every 15 mins on one side or the other at night, I timed them.

Sounds like a really nice trip. Try rt 26 from Portland area to the coast. Very nice drive and then you'll have all of those wonderful Oregon State Parks to choose from
