Trade in!

Dang forum has led me down the yellow brick road for a bigger TV! Stepping up from my F250 to F450. Should I take the rails for my old hitch out of the F250? I won't be using the same hitch with the long bed so its a no brainer to pull that out but I'm just not sure about the rails. Any help?

I left them in my old 2001 Chevy 2500HD gas truck when I went to a new 2008 Ram Cummins 2500HD Mega CAB TV; using the same hitch in both trucks. I did not think someone would want a bed full of empty holes in the floor. If the end user wanted to remove the rails that is his decision.

I left the rails in my old GMC when I got the new one. I figured the slots may be a bit worn anyway. New ones weren't that difficult to install.

Go ahead and blame it on us! You gotta justify it somehow... Wow, going from a 250 to 450! Why not go ahead and get a HDT? LOL

How did come out on the trade of your F250? I have a 2011 F250 and would like to trade to an F350 DRW. I've looked at them but haven't gotten serious about trading yet. Local dealership had a few 2013 Platinum F350 DRW's on the lot.

Ford hitch

I took the rails out of my last F-350 when I sold it. I then sold the hitch and rails on Craigslist. The new F-350 had the trailer hitch package so I need a new hitch anyway. I like it much better than the rails. There were numerous ads for hitches, but my was the only one that had the rails. I sold everything in 2 days!

That's great! Why not step it up to the F550? What bed will you be using as all the F450 and bigger are cab and chassis?

I know that Ford changes things around from market to market, but in this area, F250/350/450 come with beds. The only option for a bed in the F450 is the 8' dually bed. There is no optional "bed delete" or ability to order without a bed.

Now, the F550 does have that option, but not the F450. At least it doesn't in the Michigan market.

Here in GA, you can purchase a 3,4,or 550 as a cab and chassis. Also a 350/450 can be purchased with a bed. 450 is only available with 8' bed. Not sure about the 350.

Here you can buy the truck and sell the bed. Possibly the dealer can "take it off your hands" but all the trucks through the F450 come with beds installed. The F550 is the first where it's an option to buy a cab/chassis.

I'm sure that fleet sales are different, after all, the RV mini-home market uses them regularly.

I got mine with the bed. Maybe later take it off for something different but that isn't in the works yet.

Before you go through the effort of removing your rails find out if they will fit your new truck. We upgraded from a 2010 2500 HD to a 2014 2500 HD with the same body style and the rails would not fit. Manufacturers make subtle changes in the vehicles which affect after market add ons like the frame rails.
