It's early, but not too early to plan a trip....

It's early, but not too early to plan a trip!

We are picking up our Cougar 315RES 5'er in another month or so, but I am starting to plan a trip South for a few weeks in the fall.

We want to do NM, Az, and/or California.

Any suggestions as to where would be a good place to stay, I don't want to stay primarily in the tourist traps, I want to relax in relatively warm dry places.

Not that we do not want to do the tourist trap places, sure we want to see some sights, but I want to stay away from the masses and enjoy the sun.

What say you fellow Keystone RV'ers..............

Check out the New Mexico state parks, most are really nice, big spaces and very reasonable 14$ a night. If you dry camp look into the BLM lands in AZ and CA. Nice scenery away form crowds.

Oliver Lee State Park, close to White Sands National Monument, NM

If you are going to be in NM in the fall be sure to stop in Albequerque to see the balloon festival.. Hot air balloons galore. Google it.... I think it goes on a week or more.

It depends on what kind of scenery you want if you are going to come to Arizona. In the summer time it is pretty hot, so most go North to Show Low area or Payson. Payson is a little more pricer. There are quite a few RV parks around the Show Low area. If you come toward Phoenix or Tucson, there are several RV sites. Yuma is wayyyy hot during the summer.

Thanks Lee, we are planning the trip in the fall time, so the temps should be more comfortable to this old Canuck.....Our summertime camping will be mostly in the mountains around Alberta and BC.

And here too...

For the Albuquerque Balloon Fiesta, make reservations 'now'... most folks reserve a year in advance.

Hope this helps

Late March. Nice area, if it gets too hot its easy to head up in elevation to find cool air.

In summer, the area around Flagstaff and WIlliams Az is a lot cooler than the southern part of the state. There are several campgrounds in the area, and you are only an hour or so from the Grand Canyon. Also within 2-3 hours of Monument Valley and Lake Powell in Northern Az.

edit, I just re-read your post and saw that you are planning the trin fall. The areas mentioned above should be rather enjoyable this time of year, although Flagstaff and Williams could be chilly. Fall colors should be really nice if you are there Sept/Oct.
