My RV Trip along Scenic Byway 12, Utah

Last May during our visit to Utah we journeyed along the famous Byway 12. Check my blog for details on where we stayed and what we saw. It's a fantastic place to RV. Just make sure you vehicle is in good shape and your tow vehicle can handle the extra burden of some 10-12 % grades and elevations up to 10,000 ft.

Was fueling ever an issue along your trip? I don't know if you are running a transfer tank or not.

No, no problems , there was plenty of diesel available. My truck has dual tanks, hold about 36 gallons total. Fueled up at Bryce Canyon, lots of facilities there, even a RV wash and service station. Then in Torrey there are several stations.

The route is very popular with RV's so there are more services than a normal rural area.

I've been contemplating a larger fuel tank. My current tank holds 35 gallons which runs a very comfortable 300 miles, loaded. I live in Virginia, and out here, fueling is not a problem. I was just curious about how it is out west. It is hard to justify well over $1,000.00 just for the sake of carrying more weight. I've always had a transfer tank in the back of my truck but did not install one in my new truck. This is also my first TT and I've never had the occasion to have to be concerned about finding fuel. Thanks for the reply.

We probably will be passing through this area around mid to late April and was wondering about the temperatures. I would imagine that being up so high that they would remain fairly "cool". If setting out on a trip up into the mountains and having to climb up long, steep grades, I'd rather not do that when the temps are in the 80's - 90's.
I notice that you did your trip in May.

You are more likely up there in April to have to watch out for a possible snow fall. In mid May it was really nice, day time highs between 50-75, some lows at night were down to freezing, down in Zion and Moab it was a range of 60 -85 degrees.
Nice part about that part of the country is depending on the weather you can always adjust your elevation.

Also in climbing grades I make sure it's not going to be to windy, sucks climbing up and into the wind.

We traveled also on 12 and it was end of March 2010 and there was lots of snow.

We loved it. It was SO beautiful.

Nice, I can imaging what a frosting of white would do to enhance the red rock
