Yosemite/Kings Canyon

Planning our trip to Yosemite, mid to late Sept, 14 to 16 total travel days.

I know the reservation window opens the 15th of each month so we're getting close to our window. Can we just wing it since it's Sept?

Looking for advice on campgrounds and great sites. TT is around 33 so I know some of the goods spots we can't fit in.

We're looking at 4-5 days Yosemite first and then Kings Canyon/Sequioa for the other half of the trip. Prefer avoiding crowds if possible. Love to day hike and bike so we'll do the must sees in Yosemite and then relax in Kings/Sequioa.

Thanks for your help!

New TT and TV currently in buying decisions

Did that area in 2010, Yosemite was very busy still especially in the valley itself. Outside the valley the campgrounds weren't totally full. We only had reservations for the campground in the valley , rest of the time we winged it but in a camper van so fairly small rig so we fit in almost anywhere.

If you can day trip, take a drive over Tioga Pass and see Mono Lake, stop at the Mobil Gas Station for a bite to eat, awesome food.

Kings Canyon was having a forest fire on our trip so missed it but stayed in some nice forestry sites in Sequoia, one called Stoney Creek

We were in Yosemite in 2010 and stayed outside of the park at a private place and it was not a campground but I believe it was Mariposa Fairgrounds.
No luxury here, just a place to park it, but had full hook ups and was $25 a night.

As far as Kings Canyon/Sequoia, we stayed in a site at Kings Canyon. We were there 5 nights. No hookups and it was SOoooooo awesome.

Enjoy!
