VIN # Check?

Greetings all.

New to camping and looking at a keystone hornet TT. Is there a way of checking the VIN # (like carfax) to see if it's ever been rebuilt or damaged. Thanks in advance.

Not to my knowledge. Thorough visual inspection is your best line of defense

Yeah I know. My wife and I spent an hour looking over the camper. Seemed to be well cared for. Thanks for the reply.

Yes there is BUT, only police and insurence agents can get it. Heres how, write down the VIN, make etc. and phone your agent. They will look it up in a data base that all damaged, stolen, flooded etc vehicles are put in. It is called NICB. The agent can tell you anything that is listed regarding the vehicle. Police should only give the information out if it relates to a case you and he are involved in. If you have any close police contacts you could try them.

Remember, any of that info is only good if done somewhere that enters it into the data base. You can look up a CarFax on any vehicle we own and won't get much because we do our own maintenance including small physical damage (like a deer hit) so those may not get you any useful into, all depends.

You are right, to get NICB information on a vehicle an insurence claim or police report had to have happened. If the vehicle owner went thru any insurence co. for repairs there will be a history. I do not know how carfax gets information. The information thru National Insurence Crime Bureau to an agent is free.

Many thanks to all.

I'll call my ins agent tomorrow and ask for a NICB. I know it's a shot in the dark. Like what mhs4771 said. "it's only good if any repairs, damage etc was reported to an insurance company at all.

Thanks again,
Eddy
