Freightliner Sport Chassis VS Chevy 1 ton

Looking for some feedback on the Freightliner Sport Chassis in regard to pulling a 3650RL Alpine. I have been pulling the coach with my 2018 Chevy 3500HD SRW and it pulls well but probably pretty close to max hitch weight. I am finding some used Freightliner Sport chassis for sale that have more than plenty capacity but I am concerned about the possibility that the rough ride may be too rough on the rv. Any feedback on the Freightliner from those with experience with them?

No experience with them, but I doubt the ride would hurt the rv. One thing I’d check on is the licensing requirement, unless you already have a CDL.

I have had a class A cdl for 47 years and have pulled heavy equipment grossing over 140,000 pounds many times with a Peterbuilt. Looking for some insight as to the ride of one of these Freightliner M2 trucks and the effect on my Alpine.

Go to myrvtalk.com and join. Ask JEBarr (Jim and a friend) how his '07 Freightliner Sportchassis rides/pulls. He has owned this truck since I have known him and he is a very knowledgeable RVer. Tell him I sent you.

Just from my experience, driving Freightliner Cascadia's. The roughest riding class 8 truck I've ever driven. They were a 2018 and two 2020's and they all rode like stage coaches. Any other brand is an improvement. The best ride was probably from a 2017 International but the 2021 Pete we have now is great.

I purchased a 2012 Freightliner M2 112 two weeks ago. Yesterday we took our Alpine to one of the campgrounds we like that is about 40 miles from us. A state maintained highway with plenty of rough places in it. The truck actually rode better with better control than did our Chevy 3500HD. The truck also has a slightly tighter turn radius than the 3500HD. I did make some steps for our dog to get in the back seat better, though. We love the truck so far!

Oh yes, with ease and good ride with the air bags in the back, leaf springs in front but about to be modified to have air bags in the front, too. I am intending to make the front ride like a cloud. Air bags came in yesterday.

Yes, air bags in the back and about to have air bags in front along with some custom ride control components.

If you really want a smooth ride go to a Chrome Shop for trucks and check out their air ride seats if yours doesn't already have them.

Both the driver and passenger seats in my truck are air ride seats.

I don't remember the price of my dad's Bostrom seat back in the 60's, but when my mom discovered the expense there as hell to pay! Yes, she eventually got over it.
