New to black tank maintenance

Your post sounds like black tank maintenance was new to you

Google the Geo Method to maintain the tank and Avoid the smell while using in the future.

KEY is to put water back in the tanks once home to maintain them. Never want a dry black tank. Water is friendly to have. Geo method is soap and water softener.
Gray tank maintenance is return water, add Dep citrus cleaner and soap mix in. When you drive out on the next trip the few gallons you put back in washes the tank!

Don't know the type of maintenance the OP does on his black tank but the Geo method, or any other, won't help a leaky toilet seal that lets waste accumulate and stagnate in the toilet base.

As I read this thread I'm thinking my own Dometic 300 that I've wanted to replace since day one. I'm a bigger guy and the toilet is as sturdy as a wastebasket. I REALLY appreciate everyone's input to this thread and recommendations for the 310.

I see CW has them on sale for $231 which may save me the from the dreaded walk to the dumpster as Sourdough experienced!

We just had a toilet seat bidet put in our TT so hopefully we have no TP issues in our blank tank. Might use alot more water, but we will save when it comes to washing clothes as that's 5 gallons per load or 3 or four loads. We had to trim the one we got due to that hump on the toilet. Hopefully we have no seal problem as well as they had to remove the toilet so they could have space to work.

Just make sure to measure the clearances before replacing a 300. Probably only applies to a few trailers but ours is too close to the back wall to clear anything else. Our original 300 lasted four seasons. Unfortunately, the replacement 300 lasted about half a season.

A temporary "fix" without removing, repairing, or replacing is to add a couple layers of duct tape across the large open area on the upper back of the toilet. It's kind of tricky to get the tape in there correctly, but if you manage to seal off the opening, you can at least contain the odors. They really just need to remove that thing from the market.

I'm sorry, please disregard. I had two threads open on this forum and responded to the wrong one. Yes, would be uncomfortable... :-)

Perhaps you did not read his first sentence well?

“ Today was my first time to dump the black tank and all seemed to go well”

He will benefit from the post……

The OPs question, and problem, was not related to putting chemicals/stuff in the black tank as I mentioned previously in the thread. Obviously I read the first first sentence....as well as the rest and had a good idea of what the issue was, not the lack of the Geo method. If you thought the Geo method was something that needed to be done you could state that vs inferring it was the solution to the problem. He may, or may not, benefit from the Geo method; there are other alternatives.

Black Tank Treatment: Yes, I'm a newbie to RV/TT camping and black tank maintenance. I've watched YouTube videos so I get the idea of how this is done. So far I've just dumped once and then poured 6+ gallons of water back into the tank through the toilet and then dropped in a packet of Happy Camper, or something similar, and drove home. I'll probably try the Geo method sometime, but currently what I did seems to be ok for now.

Since the "black tank problem" was related to a Dometic 300 I'll post my reply here.

It's a balmy 39° in Northern Wisconsin so I kicked on the furnace and replaced my 300 with a 320. My 2018 Bullet 1800RB had plenty of room for the elongated version and I'm very pleased with the upgrade. Still have ~1-1/2" clearance against the back wall.

I was surprised to see the toilet flange didn't drop directly into the black tank. I suppose this disperses the solids as they fall into the tank.

Hey that is cool to know.

I could use more, er....seat

I have the outdoor kitchen, WHICH, with hindsight, I would forgo for a bigger bathroom, live and learn.

It shoves my toilet out more from the wall, might encroach the doorway too much, arg.

If I ever get the hankering to remodel this puppy somewhere down the road, that would be it.
I would keep the access door to the outside kitchen as is, just remove the sink, etc, and put in some much shallower storage, shelves, maybe for fishing gear
Move the inside wall in the bathroom back, and move the toilet back,
I reckon I could do that all from above and leave the underside unmolested and sealed,
edit: Oh, looking at your picture again I see I already have the elongated toilet, I guess that means I need to remodel my butt :0

Someone did that several years ago to convert their outdoor kitchen to a "garage storage for fishing gear: https://www.keystoneforums.com/forum...ad.php?t=30291

I see your flange has 8 screws into the floor. My same flange only had 4 screws installed by Keystone... I added another 4 screws while in there.
