Wheel Bearings

Does anyone know what wheel bearing part numbers I need for a 2002 Keystone Hornet 27ss ? Going on a trip this summer and wanna install new bearings or purchase them to have on hand for piece mind . I inspect, and grease the bearings every spring along with checking brakes and tire condition. I never travel farther then 200 miles from home with it so I wanna be extra careful and cover my backside on this trip as it's going to be about 1200 miles. I'm installing all new tires as well this year.

If you can locate the axle tag(s) that information will go a long ways in getting you the right stuff without having to take a wheel/hub off.

^^Yes look for the paper tag that is glued on the axle tubes.
Not to be rude, but just have to ask: you've been inspecting the bearings since 2002 and never wrote down the bearing numbers?

No sorry I should have added that I'm the second owner and I've not ever thought to write the numbers down . I wish I would have . I appreciate the info from you both . I've had the camper for almost 5 years. The bearings have always looked good and no abnormal wear on them. The original owner never towed the camper from what I've learned but to drop it at a seasonal site and leave it there each year .

Is there a tire/axle/gvwr decal on the roadside front corner of the trailer? If there is, what is the FAWR/RAWR (Front axle/rear axle weight rating) on the decal? If the axle is rated at 3500 pounds, or 5200 pounds or 6000 pounds, then they are "standard build axles and the bearings are standardized. If they are any other weight rating or if they are "special build axles" then they may not follow the "standard parts list"....

Post what is on the decal or what is on the axle tag (on the axle beam) and we can go from there.

Thank you, I'll be at where I'm storing the camper tomorrow and I'll see if the info is readable.

Here is a pic of the tag on the axle. Looks like 5200lbs axles .

Keep in mind that your axles are 20 years old, so some things MAY have changed, but this "should be" a starting point for bearings, races, grease seal:

Double Lip Grease Seal-010-036-00
Outer Race-LM67010
Outer Bearing-LM67048
Inner Race-25520
Inner Bearing-25580

On an EZ Lube axle, DO NOT USE A SINGLE LIP GREASE SEAL !!!!!

Even if you don't "lube using the zerk fitting in the spindle, the increased pressure from grease expansion can "push liquified grease through a single lip seal and contaminate your brake linings/hub.

Always insist on "double lip grease seals".....

You're welcome. Just make sure that where ever you buy the bearings, that if they're the "updated ones and don't fit your axles, that you can exchange them. The info above is from "current axle specs" which might be different from 20 year old specs.... Hopefully they're the same, but .....

Yeah that's completely understandable , I've got enough time to do the research now and when I do the spring maintenance I can verify fitment and address any issues that might arise .

I would check out etrailer.com Looks like a complete bearing kit with seals and washers and pins for $49. I have the DEXTER axle service manual and based on the info you have provided you are ordering for an axle that has 12inch by 2inch brakes and 6 bolt hub. The part numbers you have provided line up well with the service manual. etrailer.com sells trailer parts, amazon sells everything. You can talk to someone at etrailer to make sure you are ordering the right parts.

Thank you also for that info, I'll be sure to check them out as well. I've bought from etrailer before and have good service so that's got possibilities .

You say you inspect every year, are you seeing signs of wear? If not why change them?

Be careful with the size of the grease seal. When I had 5200# axles I seem to remember there was a change in the Outside Diameter of the seal.

Part numbers are always on the bearings and races. Should be able to see them once you remove them. The part # should also be on the seal.

It was mentioned using etrailer for bearings, which is a very good place to start. I purchased a spare bearing from them using their Travel Trailer listing.
It's been recommended to inspect bearing annually by experts, but I think that's overkill from us weekend warriors. My real suggestion is to use a quality heavy duty bearing grease, and shoot a little grease in the fittings once or twice a year.
I've done hundreds of bearing inspections and lubes on aircraft, including my own vehicles, and it's usually insufficient amount of grease that burns the bearing rollers and race.

You wouldn’t be able to see the numbers on the inner bearings without popping the seals and removing them anyway.
