On most trailers from around 2005 - 2014 or 15, there was a "yellow clearance light" mounted to the frame rail, in the area where the steps fold up for storage.
That light is "down in the rain" with every tow and the bulb is notorious for getting wet and cracking or for corrosion on the socket. When that happens, the light stops working (even though the switch works well)...
Even if it's not "a step light, more likely it's the bulb burned out in the fixture that switch controls, and that's why the switch doesn't illuminate a specific light fixture. "Flip the switch" all day long, if the bulb doesn't work, you'll never "see the light" even though the switch is working perfectly...
Now, it becomes an "Easter egg hunt" to find which fixture has the burned out bulb.....
