Question License Fees, what are yours like?

Hoo Boy, just got my bill from the county for putting license plates on my 2018 26 RBPR for 2020. For a trailer that only gets hauled less than 4,000 miles per year my bill this year is approximately $350. I know I am getting hit for being a "luxury" but I was just wondering what other states charge.
So this is Colorado and the retail on the TT was $32,000 but we paid in real time a trade in and $18,000.

How is it in your state? Canada? If it is a lot cheaper where you live maybe you could claim me?

Michigan uses permanent trailer plates. It was $300 when I bought the trailer. Ours go by weight.
0-2,499=$75
2,500-9,999=$200
10,000+=$300

For Florida (from this site):

MOTOR VEHICLE REGISTRATION FEES
The fees listed below represent the base vehicle tax only. Other statutory fees apply. Registration use, license plate type and class code are used to determine registration fees. The class code is determined by the vehicle weight, body type, vehicle type and registration use.

Heavy Truck (8,000 - 9,999 pounds) $103.00
Heavy Truck (10,000 - 14,999 pounds) $118.00
Heavy Truck (15,000 - 19,999 pounds) $177.00
Heavy Truck (20,000 - 26,000 pounds) $251.00

Recreational Vehicles (5th wheel) $27.00
Recreational Vehicles (camping trailer) $13.50
Recreational Vehicles (under 4,500lbs) $27.00
Recreational Vehicles (over 4,500 lbs) $47.50

Original/Replacement License Plate Fee $28.00
Initial Registration Fee $225.00
-----------------------------------------------------
All that said above, I looked at our registration renewal and the charge was $10.60.

I have lived in Vermont where you pay a one-time sales tax, and then an annual fee. Tax is 6% of the sale price and registration is $52/year. Here in New Hampshire we pay a personal use tax each year plus a registration fee. The use tax goes down each year but the registration fee is fixed. Our Passport cost $460 this year to register (new). This coming year will be a little less. As bad as it is, if you itemize Federal taxes, the use tax is deductible so it really isn’t painful. Having no sales tax or income tax here makes it tolerable.

In Ohio it is somewhere around $45 per year. Just is based on it being a towable RV. It is not based on value or weight so all towable RVs are the same. It varies a little because counties and cities also get into the act.

Oregon is paid every 2 years. The state charges by length

10ft or shorter 81.
Each additional ft 6.75

My trailer is charged for 27 ft at 195.75 for 2 years.

I do not recall the percent, but around half goes to the state parks.

TX state fees

In TX - I have to hook up and drive 5 miles to the nearest dealer for an "inspection". No appointment necessary. I could not tell you exactly what they inspect - but the do a walk-around and eyeball the thing in the parking lot and say "That'll be $7.50". They log into the state registration system and tell it that mine has passed inspection.

I can then pay for my registration sticker online - it will be $133.75, good for a year on the RV. My truck is a 2019 the inspection sticker that came on it is good for 2 years, so it will not be due until Feb 2021. No idea how much it will be, but probably $150 or so plus the cost of an inspection ($20 I think??).

NY is similar to what Summit Pond showed for Florida. Each registration is good for the year (1/1 thru 12/31). The registration fee goes down as more time passes. For example, I will get notifications that my trailer registration is expiring 12/31, and if I renew for the following year before the current year ends, the registration is full price (I forget exactly what the price is - somewhere around $65-70/year). By the time I usually renew (in the spring), the cost is a portion less.

In California I just paid $500 for my 42' fifth wheel for it's second year. I feel your pain. Along with my TV at $850.

We register ours in Montana. They issue permanent plates for TTs. From memory, the cost was about $175. Also, when our TV reaches 11 years old, it qualifies for permanent plates and the TV rego reduces each year until it gets to 11 years.
And we paid no sales tax on the purchase of the truck or trailer. We did have to pay about $1,000 to set up an LLC and get them to set up the registrations for us. But the LLC costs $49 P/Y to maintain. The LLC was the best way for non US residents to purchase the truck and trailer as we have no US address. But this mechanism is also available to, and used a lot by US residents.

Most people in the US who do it use it as a way to avoid paying sales tax, but that's not why we did it. There was some discussions online that suggested some state police will pull over Montana plated vehicles and check driver's licenses because the state authorities don't like missing out on the sales tax, but we've not encountered anything like that ... Yet.

Ca charges weight fees based on the GVWR of the TV. My ‘94 F350 is 10,000 and just the weight fees were like $278.00 IIRC.

Just paid the tag on my ‘12 trailer and it was about $240.00

Just what don’t they tax in California? Sales tax, income, high vehicle fees, huge gas tax!

Because so many are moving from California to Texas, there is a saying going around here:
"Don't California my Texas"

$2700 for 3 years on the trailer in Nevada. The truck was $800 for one year. Vehicle registration is the thing I like least about Nevada. I have to say the roads are nice and I've driven all over the state.

In Kansas you are charged a flat fee for your license tag -- about $35 on the TT and my F-150. But you also have to pay annual personal property tax based on the assessed value. Last year, I think the tags and taxes combined on the TT were about $120.

40-some-odd years ago when we first lived in Louisiana there was a sign on I-10 heading west into Texas that read something like "Welcome to the Land of Texas from the Land of Taxes". Sales tax and property taxes were low in LA, but they taxed the heck out of everything else. Not sure if the sign is there any more.
