Mud flaps
Looking to install mudflaps on my 3500 dually for towing. Right now its a toss up between the Husky molded style and the OEM rubber style or even the molded type.
Any thoughts on the temporary style that attach to the receiver hitch, such as towtector or rock tamer? Good? Bad? PITA???

I have the Rock Tamer on my 3500 Silverado. I like it cause it works well to keep the rocks and crud off the RV, but doesn't do much for the TV itself. That's the mudflap's job. So I recommend you buy and use both.

I thought all duallys have to have flaps, otherwise the guy behind you gets pelted with rocks.
In Ny you get a ticket if tires are out from body without flaps ?

Same thing in california, for any vehicle when the tires extend beyond the edge of the fender. However, the tires are well within the fender, so not required since its stock.

I use Gaterback, Figured if I had to have them they might as well look nice. I've had mine on for four years and they still look new, replaced some cheap dealer labeled flaps.

Texas, any Dually must have them... regardless... tires cannot stick out past fender or you got to install fender flares... as well
Rocks get flung out from between the tires...

I always have the flaps on the dually fenders but each of my trucks since 2000 has had Rock Tamers. I've been through three sets. The first replacement was due to the finish flaking off and I didn't want to detract from the looks of the new truck. The second set I replaced because after being installed for 16 years the receiver was frozen in the hitch when I traded the truck. Ford tried to torch it off but with no luck.
Even with the dually fender flaps, my trailers have always taken rock hits on the bottom without the receiver mount flaps. The Rock Tamers catch the stuff that comes up under the dually flaps. I leave them on all the time but you can take them off whenever not towing by removing the receiver. Install is about 2 hours if you have everything laid out. 4 if your a procrastinator like me. If you go that route pay particular attention to trimming them only when you are hitched so proper ground clearance is maintained. My first set I didn't do this way and would up scraping the rubber of right down to the metal.

Thanks for the info! I just ordered a set of Husky liner molded front/rear mud flaps. I'll still look into rock tamers

I have the Towtector full width. Minimum drag and no marks on the trailer. You don't want any gaps.

My truck had mud flaps when I bought it in '08. First time backing over the sidewalk to hook up previous fiver, busted one off, busted the other one off pulling out over the same curb. They are buried somewhere in the garage now.

Bolo: I have the Husky moulded flaps on my 2017 3500 Ram. I added led running lights about 2" from the bottom of each and they look fantastic - real light show at night.

Put the Ford mud flaps on and they seem to do a fairly decent job...for full timing the Rock Tamers would be a lot better.
